AirPods Pro 2 engraving not showing on screen

Hi,

i ordered some new AirPods Pro, the new second generation, and I let them engrave with my name. Apple says, while connecting, or opening the case, it should show a picture of the case, with my name on it. It does not. It only shows a standard case without engraving.

i did delete the AirPods, and connected them again. Worked great, but still no engraving on the screen. Is this a known bug, or am I doing something wrong?

Thank you in advance!

Hi,

It is fixed for some time now, but only after I contacted Apple about it. They told me to delete the AirPods from my Apple account, in my phone, and then add them again.

First they told me it should work, but my AirPods would not connect like they should, so I felt like I was getting only more trouble. But I told the lady to wait a second, and deleted my AirPods again. After linking them again, it worked like a charm. Since them no problems at all.

So you could try this, and maybe it will work. If not, contact Apple support!

I wish you much luck!

Hello CycloneCleaver,

Congratulations on your new AirPods! For this, you'll want to make sure your iPhone is updated to the public release of 16.1.1. To find out what you have installed, tap Settings > General > About. If an update is needed, back up first: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Update your iPhone or iPad wirelessly

1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
4. If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.
The Settings app on iPhone showing options to update to iOS 15.7 or iOS 16.

5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do.

If you're already updated or the behavior continues, we recommend reaching out to Apple Support to look into it with you more. They can be reached by starting here: Contact - Official Apple Support

If the engraving you added during customization isn't showing up on the screen, there are a few things you can try:

  1. Double-check that the engraving was added correctly during the customization process. If you made a mistake or forgot to add the engraving, it won't appear on the screen.
  2. Make sure that you're using a device that is compatible with the AirPods Pro 2. The engraving may not show up if you're using a device that isn't compatible with the AirPods Pro 2.
  3. Try resetting your AirPods Pro 2 and then attempt to customize them again. To reset them, put them back in their charging case, press and hold the button on the back of the case until the LED light flashes amber, and then release the button.

If none of these steps work, you may want to contact Apple support for further assistance.

I had same issue, and I think I know why it keeps not showing your engraving.

-

make sure you have the latest ios/ firmware, and iphone is compatible.

if your airpods pro is connected to your iPhone, do not click on “Forget This Device” from your Bluetooth setting. Instead, go to Find My and click on “Remove This Device”.

Not only it will disconnect it from your iPhone, but also from your icloud.

-

reason why it keep on not showing engraving on my case is because I have my aipods pro connected to my iphone 7+ (which is not compatible for this feature) before, so when I upgraded to iphone 14 the airpods pro setting stays the same on my icloud, I guess.

just now I kept on disconnecting via Bluetooth setting, and it failed always.

but when I removed it from Find My, and tried setting up again, it worked like a charm.

hope this works for everyone

I just received and set up my brand new pair of AirPods Pro2 with the engraving. And the engraving is NOT showing up on the screen for me either.

I guess I'll wait for iOS 16.4. 🤞

I only have an iPhone 13 Pro Max, I certainly hope the iOS update fix works on my old iPhone.

I still have the same problem with my 2nd replaced AirPods Pro 2.

god knows what Apple is doing with the product and there support service is pathetic.

Each time I asked them to recheck the product before they ship, but I got the replacement with the same issue.

any help to fix this without Apple support will be really appreciated!!!!

Same with me. I contacted apple support and they seem to not know about their product. Its kinda disappointing because even the “tech manager” does not know about the engraving should show on the iphone screen on its first pairing. He also mentioned about the version sent must be of old firmware however, its hard to update the airpods by itself.

Apple is getting to wrong side of cuustomer support. I have the same issue with my AirPods Pro (Gen 2) where engravings are not showing up on phone. I have visited apple store here in Melbourne multiple times and each time they stalled the issue that it will be fixed with new OS update but it didn't. Today, a very rude apple team member clearly told me that it is not a documeneted feature from apple so apple is not going to do anything.

I always thought apple had the best customer service but not anymore.

I have been able to fix. I called a rep who helped me reset(NOT FORGET) the device.

After resetting it works like new.

I forgot the process but I’m sure you can find how to reset your AirPods on here somewhere How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro - Apple Support

and I think it should show an orange light.

It's not I have memoji it doesn't show.

However Apple Support DID confirm they heard about the issue when I contacted them on Twitter about the issue, and they did mention that it is "under-review", and I did also ask to see if it's an issue with firmware or IOS Software, and they mentioned it's actually NOT firmware but IOS software.

So just keep your phone up-to date.
