AirPods Pro 2 engraving not showing on screen

Hi,

i ordered some new AirPods Pro, the new second generation, and I let them engrave with my name. Apple says, while connecting, or opening the case, it should show a picture of the case, with my name on it. It does not. It only shows a standard case without engraving.

i did delete the AirPods, and connected them again. Worked great, but still no engraving on the screen. Is this a known bug, or am I doing something wrong?

Thank you in advance!

Hi,

It is fixed for some time now, but only after I contacted Apple about it. They told me to delete the AirPods from my Apple account, in my phone, and then add them again.

First they told me it should work, but my AirPods would not connect like they should, so I felt like I was getting only more trouble. But I told the lady to wait a second, and deleted my AirPods again. After linking them again, it worked like a charm. Since them no problems at all.

So you could try this, and maybe it will work. If not, contact Apple support!

I wish you much luck!

Hello CycloneCleaver,

Congratulations on your new AirPods! For this, you'll want to make sure your iPhone is updated to the public release of 16.1.1. To find out what you have installed, tap Settings > General > About. If an update is needed, back up first: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Update your iPhone or iPad wirelessly

1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
4. If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.
The Settings app on iPhone showing options to update to iOS 15.7 or iOS 16.

5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do.

If you're already updated or the behavior continues, we recommend reaching out to Apple Support to look into it with you more. They can be reached by starting here: Contact - Official Apple Support

Take care!

I had same issue, and I think I know why it keeps not showing your engraving.

-

make sure you have the latest ios/ firmware, and iphone is compatible.

if your airpods pro is connected to your iPhone, do not click on “Forget This Device” from your Bluetooth setting. Instead, go to Find My and click on “Remove This Device”.

Not only it will disconnect it from your iPhone, but also from your icloud.

-

reason why it keep on not showing engraving on my case is because I have my aipods pro connected to my iphone 7+ (which is not compatible for this feature) before, so when I upgraded to iphone 14 the airpods pro setting stays the same on my icloud, I guess.

just now I kept on disconnecting via Bluetooth setting, and it failed always.

but when I removed it from Find My, and tried setting up again, it worked like a charm.

hope this works for everyone

I had the same issue after I recently bought the AirPods Pro 2 on Apple website. I tried everything: unpair, forget, repair and nothing worked - the engraving didn’t show on my phone. I engraved the case with my email address. It delivered the next day.

As I was still within the time frame to return, I returned the device and then bought another one on the Apple Store app. I added a Memoji engraving. This is only possible when buying on the Apple Store app.

First, I noticed that with the Memoji engraving, delivery will take around 2 weeks (although I received mine within one week). I also noticed that the AirPods shipped from China.

I received the AirPods today and as soon as I paired, I saw the engraving appear on the screen.

I have checked model number and it’s A2968. Same as the one I had to return.

Note that I live in the UK. Given that the first one took only 1 day to deliver, I think it was engraved in the UK.

The second pair was shipped China and I guess this made the difference for me.

I know there be others who may have had a different experience.

Well, I’m now a satisfied customer. The only reason I decided to buy these was because of this added feature.

When I synched my engraved AirPods Pro 2 to my work iPhone and then synched to my personal iPhone I did not see the engraving on my personal phone. So I unpaired my AirPods and selected forget this device on the work phone. Now the engraving would not show up on either of my phones. The fix for me was to reset my AirPods Pros 2 by holding the back button until it turned orange. Then re synched to the phone I wanted the engraving to show and it worked.

Just to add that I bought some AirPod Pro 2nd gens with USB-C and custom memoji engraving and have the exact same issue. I've tried all fixes - unpairing about 10 times, removing from iCloud, rebooting both devices and a holding the button for 15+ seconds to completely factory reset but still no virtual engraving.

The AirPods were shipped from China as expected. iOS 17.0.1 and AirPods firmware version 6A300, both of which are latest.

Got in touch with Apple Support who escalated it - asked me what version of iOS, Wifi or Cellular, asked if I had iCloud Drive syncing enabled (interesting question to ask) but just said they are aware of the issue and await a software issue which I'm not hopefully will help since this thread was started in November 2022.

After connecting with the Apple support engineers a couple of times, below is the common reply i have been getting consistently:

'It seems that Apple has received reports regarding this issue and is working hard to resolve this as quickly as possible. As this is not an issue specific to your device, I would like to advise against further troubleshooting at this point. The best option at this time would be to wait for a resolution from Apple which may come in the form of an update.'

It's not I have memoji it doesn't show.

However Apple Support DID confirm they heard about the issue when I contacted them on Twitter about the issue, and they did mention that it is "under-review", and I did also ask to see if it's an issue with firmware or IOS Software, and they mentioned it's actually NOT firmware but IOS software.

So just keep your phone up-to date.
