MacBook Pro 16" late 2019 (Intel) crashes since Ventura

Hi,

I have a MacBook Pro 16" late 2019, Intel i9 8-core 2.3 GHz, with the Radeon Pro 5600M. It's constantly connected to an Apple Studio Display 27" which I use as my main screen (content recopied on internal and Studio Display). It also has a Boot Camp partition.

Since upgrading to Ventura 13.0 and 13.0.1, I'm experiencing two strange behaviours:

  • Occasional complete crash while the computer is locked with the display off, or while reawakening from sleep. I have to hold down the power key for 5 seconds. The computer is still running but both screens (internal and Studio Display) are black. Disconnecting and reconnecting the Studio Display does nothing. The Touch Bar is frozen.
  • At the end of each day I shut down the computer. Every time I boot it up, it gives me the "You shut down the computer because of a problem" message, even though there was no problem.

To help isolate the behavior, test and see if the issue occurs after disconnecting peripherals and after starting up in safe mode. Taking these steps can help to clear up unexpected behavior. You can see those suggestions and more outlined in the article below:
