iPhone 14 Pro Max cannot focus!

This is really frustrating that this has been an issue for so long and still isn’t being addressed across the board.

Especially troubling for financial apps that require you to verify your identity, any chat app when trying to take a picture of small text, taking pictures up close or anything else. This is such a silly problem with an easy fix.

So ... I've been to Apple Geniuses twice. The first time they denied anyone else had problems. The last time they said yes, people were having problems, and even the genius had the problem. But their diagnostics showed the camera was working fine, and they did nothing. But it still has this problem. What's the resolution?

Oh really? I don't know anything haha just following her instructions, but thank you for the information! Do you know if the minimal Focal distance change can be solved or is that a Hardware issue? Also, I read that this phone has a smaller aperture - would that account for the muddy/not true-to-life color quality?

I posted this to the other forum -- but here is my phone compared with my husbands iPhone 7 Plus. it really illustrates the lack of focus/clarity and also the muddy colors of the 14 pro max.

Having the same issue reported here with my iPhone 14 pro max. Just received it today and noticed when saving a business card that it wouldn’t focus. Found this thread. Will call Apple in the next days but I’m not positive they will do anything after reading all the comments here.

Can’t focus on anything unless it’s 2-3 feet away while I’m using the camera in any app (other than the native camera app). Restarting has no effect. Downloading most recent software didn’t change anything either. I’ve seen suggestions of contacting the other apps because it’s their programming that doesn’t interface well with the camera. My major concern is Mercari.

I have an iPhone 12, and it always worked before. Now out of nowhere it won’t take pictures that aren’t blurry anymore. It automatically goes to the “1” focus setting. If I’m taking a picture of a group, or anything at all, I have to zoom back to the .5. Depositing checks or scanning QR codes is worthless.

I was so happy when I was upgrading from my 11 pro max to the 14 pro max. That is until I started using the camera. The phone camera is essential in my work and the close photos were just significantly worse then on the 11. Just decided to give my wife the 14, and go back to the 11. My wife was very happy. That is until she noticed the camera can't focus in her 3rd party apps she uses. Worst thing is I've heard they didn't fix the problem in the new iphone either... that's strike 2. I can wait a year, but if the 16 doesn't fix the problem, I might have to appologize to Android.

Same issue im having. I upgraded 2 months ago. My 8 plus worked perfectly fine but this 14 pro makes takes forever to focus on anything I have to scan. I’m really aggravated because I use that feature constantly. It’s so annoying

Same here. Still they haven’t fixed it a year later. I’m using iPhone 15 pro and no camera apps function. Sadly the sole purpose of me upgrading my old iPhone was for the camera upgrade which actually became a downgrade.

Apple is not what it once was.

I’m using an old Pixel 4 and it takes better photos, seriously.

how is everyone not complaining about this? It’s totally useless for office type activities, receipt scanning, check deposits, etc.

can I get a refund? Carry this heavy clunky phone with lousy ergonomics and battery life, overheats when in charge it. Those cheapo off brand phones are better.

The same problem with 2 iPhones. Hoped iOS 16.2 fix the bug but no changes. Just crazy!
