Apple SD Card reader is not working.

After updating into IOS 16.1, Apple SD card reader is not showing neither in Photos nor in Files. But my iPhone which is 11 pro 256 GB is detecting the SD card reader in the About section of the settings. I am a photographer. This is very important for me to work. Please help !

I'm having the same problem, however, there still is not a "no name" option for me when I go to the browsing option. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm getting pretty frustrated.

After hours of frustration, I found a fix - at least for my iPhone 13 running iOS 16.6.1. I put the card in the reader and then plugged the reader into the phone. I opened the Photos app and then scrolled down to Imports (imported photos). At that point, the import option for the reader became available on the bottom right. I was then able to import photos from the card reader to the Photos app.

I had the same issue after update. Did some reading online and found that the sd card could be corrupted.

If your SD card does not work on Mac/Microsoft it is not readable. You would need to use an sd card recovery software. once files are recovered you would then store them in a separate folder on your computer until you format the sd card. After Sd card has been formatted, transfer files back to the sd card.

Thank you AAbiGO. See this persons post for shut down restart instructions.

This does work as dumb as it sounds.

i followed your instructions and for the first time i can see my 128GB in both photos and in files.

there was a slight delay in photos then it showed the import in the bottom right of the screen. In my case it didn't find any photos.

i opened files and under my phone is a new text name called untitled.

Tap on that and you will see folders in my case called dcim. Under that folder is all my dashcam videos and they played without any caching problems.

Using the ... in top right menu i selected the file i wanted and then in the bottom of the page pressed the + symbol and the file which can be found in recents. I have no idea where it got stored. Edit- it may not have copied the file to the iPhone🤔🤔

ridiculous process to go through but a work around until Apple pulls their finger out and fixes this joke.

Thank you very much for this information! I don't understand Apple at all! Why get rid of a feature everyone knows?! I have always transfered my videos via putting the SD card adapter in, going to photos and then import. Don't understand why they all of a sudden removed that feature and instead force you to go through iCloud.

Once again! THANK YOU very much for this info!

I’m really disappointed I love my iPhone 14 max and my old android had no issues reading SD cards but that’s not the main issue. The main issue is. I’m a SPV drone pilot that relies on my SD card footage and this is extremely extremely infuriating is the word I don’t even know how to explain my iPad and my iPhone. I have tried four different brand new SanDisk Extreme 128 GB the a2 so I know it’s more than enough quality, and it will detect one out of four of my adapters, and then, as soon as I format a new SD card brand, new out of the box, and record some thing (this is also done with a new butt well used and a day before on my android so the only variable is the iPad phone/iPad. This is costing me money literally by the hour! I don’t know what to do I did all the rebooting and brand new SD cards brand new everything I am at a loss. Please contact me if even possible.

This isn’t really a very helpful answer as it seems that Apple have either removed or crippled support for the lightning SD card reader in iOS 16.

Some people seem to be having success with certain workarounds, such as restarting their phone then browsing in the files app, but this doesn’t work for everyone, including me.

Solutions along the lines of “update your phone to latest iOS”, format the card (not helpful if you have media on it) and do a factory restore are not helpful. The problem is defective software updates.

This worked for me, too! I just attached the reader with the card in it, then opened the photo app and at the bottom of the screen, imported showed up. clicked on import and it started to load in all the photos. All these other instructions made no sense to me. The files app didn't have anything labeled iCloud and when I clicked Browse, nothing happened.

Apple SD Card reader is not working.
