I use Iphone 13 pro and from past 1 month my face id wasn’t working properly, sometimes my phone use to unlock but sometimes it didn’t. And when I reset my face id and try to make a new face id I can’t register my face id It keeps on saying move your phone little lower and no matter how much I put my phone lower it doesn’t works

If Face ID isn't working on your iPhone or iPad Pro - Apple Support
"Check for updates
Update your iPhone or iPad to the latest version of iOS or iPadOS. And make sure that your iPhone or iPad model supports Face ID.
Check your Face ID settings
To check your Face ID settings, go to Settings, then tap Face ID & Passcode. Make sure that Face ID is set up and that the features you're trying to use Face ID with are turned on.
Check that nothing is covering the TrueDepth camera
Remove anything that might be covering the TrueDepth camera like dirt, a case, or a screen protector.
If you're using an iPad in landscape orientation, make sure that your finger or palm isn't covering the TrueDepth camera. If it is, an alert might appear at the top of the screen that says "Camera covered" with an arrow pointing at the TrueDepth camera.
Make sure that your face isn't blocked
Make sure that your eyes, nose, and mouth are fully visible to the TrueDepth camera. By default, Face ID doesn't work if anything is covering your mouth and nose. If you're wearing a face mask and have already set up Face ID with a mask,* make sure that your eyes aren't blocked. You might need to hold your iPhone higher if you're wearing a face mask. If you wear a face mask too high or too close to your eyes, your iPhone might not unlock.
Face ID works with many sunglasses, though Face ID with a mask isn't designed to work with sunglasses. If you're wearing sunglasses designed to block certain types of light, then your sunglasses might be blocking the infrared light used by the TrueDepth camera. Try using Face ID without your sunglasses.
* You can use Face ID with a mask on iPhone 12 and later using iOS 15.4 and later.
Make sure that you're facing the TrueDepth camera
Face ID works on iPhone only when it's in portrait orientation and you're facing the TrueDepth camera. On iPad, you can use Face ID when your iPad is in any orientation.
The TrueDepth camera has a similar range of view as when you take a selfie or make a FaceTime call. Whether your iPhone or iPad is lying on a surface or you're holding it in a natural position, make sure that your iPhone or iPad is an arm's length or closer (10-20 inches) from your face.
Restart your device
Restart your iPhone or iPad and enter your passcode. Then try using Face ID again.
Add an alternate appearance
For most users, Face ID will continuously learn as they change. If you have an appearance that can look vastly different, you can set up an alternate appearance so Face ID still recognizes you.
To set up an alternate appearance:
Reset Face ID
If you still need help, reset Face ID, then set it up again. Go to Settings, tap Face ID & Passcode, then tap Reset Face ID. Next tap Set up Face ID to set it up again.
Get service
If you still can't enroll your face, contact Apple Support.
Only a trained technician should service your device. Improper repair, modification, or use of nongenuine Apple components in the laser systems might prevent the safety mechanisms from functioning properly, and could cause hazardous exposure and injury to eyes or skin."

Absolutely crazy. After 5-8 tries I looked online I found this. What? Slap my phone? Ok I tried. I was amazed it went right into scan mode. If there was a way to create an update to screw up the iPhone 13 Apple found them all.

This solves it for me. Maybe it's the accelerometer? When I see the "move phone lower" message, I whack the edge of the phone on the soft part of my hand twice, and then it allows me to scan my face. I have to do it for every new scan, even in immediate succession (I have scanned 4 different pairs of glasses).
OMG! Knocking the front if the screen on my hand totally worked! I tried everything else and thought why not try this lol! My iPhone let me enter my Face ID after that. That’s hilarious!
Same thing is happening to my iPhone 13 Pro. On a case and glass protector, never dropped in immaculate condition.
went to the Apple Store today and they told me it was out of warranty since November 30, and I had to pay $250. off course I couldn’t take it during the holiday season it is practically impossible.
told them if they could do something about it and was told, sure pay the $250 For your loyalty.
been a loyal customer forever since the original iPhone, and have every apple product imaginable.

Same thing for me!!! I was about to do what others said and make an appointment with Apple, but I read on this forum to slap your iPhone near the front camera. Not too hard, and I did just as a last resort and LO and BEHOLD Face ID setup finally worked!!!! 😩😩😩😩😩😩😊😊😊😊 crazy!!
I sh1t you not, but the slap technique worked for me too. Randomly FaceID stopped unlocking my phone today. I power off/on. Nope. Go into settings and go to reset. Same problem as it won’t detect my face in the frame to do the head swirl. Kept saying move up. Move down. It would refocus. Reset again. Same thing. Searching online. Nothing good. I am about to go trade in my phone. I find this post. Firmly slap my screen in the camera area and it works in the first try. Seriously unbelievable. On the technique, I held the phone in my left hand. Slapped with my right and I would guess my 3 middle fingers hit the front facing camera area between the last two knuckles. 🤷🏼♂️😂💯
I have read it here 9 solutions to Fix Move iPhone a Little Lower/Higher Issue While Setting Up Face ID, that gently tap, smack or hit the notch with the palm of your hand and this might fix this issue, there are many other solution too but I have seen this solution is working for many people, so give it a try.
For some reason knocking the phone on the front camera area on my palm wakes it up then works for a day or so then stops then i just knock it again and it works and so the cycle goes
Somebody mentioned clapping your hands on the front camera. I thought it was a joke. I did it and it worked.
Hitting the phone 2 times over the camera worked
I also have been having this same issue. I tried all of the steps to get it to work. However, tapping my camera on my palm and then blowing on the camera is what made it start working again.
the suggestion someone had of knocking it on the front camera worked! It’s hilarious! And I’m so relieved that I finally have my Face ID working again after a couple weeks.

Take a selfie in *Portrait* mode. Then try Face ID setup again.
