Magic Trackpad haptic feedback not working after Ventura update on Macbook Pro

My laptop: Macbook Pro 15-inch, 2017

macOS: 13.0.1 (22A400)

I updated to the mac os Ventura recently, but the haptic feedback on my Magic Trackpad stopped working. All the clicks are working fine, just the vibration is missing, any help please? (the built-in trackpad on my laptop is working fine)

I've tried to turn off the Magic Trackpad for few hours, and turn it back on. The haptic feedback worked for few seconds, but soon stopped.

Disconnecting the trackpad or restarting the laptop won't help as well.

Ditto exactly to this! I'm fed up with following instructions on 'how to fix it', when none of them work. I have resorted to enabling 'tap' as I can't get on with clicking with no haptic feedback.

Come on Apple!! This is far to widespread to be random and trivial!!

MacOS Monterey 12.6.7 (21G651) here, same problem.

A few weeks ago, this happened, and I tried most of the remedies listed here: unpairing and re-pairing, pairing to a different Mac and then back to the one where I want it, somewhere in there a reboot probably happened. Got it to work again.

This week, nothing helps, even overnight in the freezer.

I could live without "haptic feedback" from the device, but I need a way to mouse-down-hold to drag things around for the device to be useful rather than annoying.

Hi, I have got the same issue on my MacBook Air 2018 Retina when haptic feedback stopped working after Ventura update. Apple Support refuse to believe there is some bug in update however I found a video on Youtube when a guy suggested to heat up touchpad and let it cool down.

I just bought a heat gun, set on a maximum heat option, turned off Mac, started heating up touchpad for about 2 min - 2cm above continuously moving it and never let it stay on the same place.

After I turned on Mac it didn't work, then I let it cool down and its start working again. I don't know how this helped but it works.

But remember you take risk and responsibility on yourself doing this. Try to put Mac at least on a tiles, not carpet, wood or other flammable surfaces.

I have a macbook pro 2020 and the haptic feedback stopped working. It was running Ventura but I don't think it stopped working at the same time as the update.

I have been living in a climate around 30 C so I thought I would try the opposite of your trick. I put the mac in the refrigerator for about 45 minutes. When I took it out, after a few moments the haptic feedback worked again! Then it briefly stopped working for a minute before returning (for good?).

It's possible that this could have seriously backfired. Heavy condensation formed on the outside of the laptop. I let it warm-up/dry-off while placing it on the table, fully opened with keys & screen facing down so that if condensation formed inside, it would not drip on the motherboard. Not sure if this helped but, in any case, it's still working at the end of the day.

I’m having the same issue with the same MBP (2017 15”), but for me it started following a more recent Ventura update – to version 13.5 (22G74).

I’ve tried all the fixes in this thread that do not involve changing the temperature of my laptop or the trackpad (I don’t have a hair dryer, among other reasons).

Strangely, I'm having the same issue when using the Magic Trackpad with my iPad as well – i.e., it works but no haptic feedback. This was not the case prior to the above-referenced Ventura update for my MBP.

Is there an actual fix for this that doesn’t involve a hairdryer, a freezer, or a "heat gun"?  Please??  Thank you!

My laptop: Macbook Pro 15-inch, 2017

macOS: 13.6 (22G120)

My haptic feedback of my trackpad (not the magic trackpad) was suddenly not working on my macbook pro... The macbook was therefore useless.

What worked for me: I run apple diagnostics which did the trick. After the diagnostics menu appeared the trackpad was again working as it should.

For my macbook it was just a kind of software glitch.

FXED for me.

MacBook Air (Intel 2020) Inbuilt Trackpad stopped working after upgrading to Sonoma 14.0.

Actions:

Didn't work: Ran diagonstic

Didn't work: SMC Reset, and Reebot

Didn't work: Using Paper edge to clean trackpad gaping

Worked: Heating trackpad using Hair dryer and simultaneously cleaning trackpad gap using Paper edge (while doing this, keep the device turned off and let it cool down before restarting)

WTF, I had the same issue, I tried to clean the gap with thin A4 paper, reset nvram smc etc.

Nothing worked and I was so ready to reinstall the OS for the final try, had no hope with the heating method but tried it anyway with a hair dryer (the touch feels like 80-90 degrees, and not to blow it toward the screen in case it kills retina).

Then it worked, what the actual F I can't believe this, this is hilarious TBH.

THE TRACK PAD STOPPED GIVING HAPTIC FEEDBACK - HERE IS THE SOLUTION THAT WORKED FOR ME

first I tried the heating method using a hair dryer, heated the trackpad for a few minutes (2 mins) and let it cool down didn't show any signs of progress

afterwards, I used a currency note and slipped it carefully under the trackpad and cleaned the trackpad underneath all around it. Also using the currency note slightly lift the trackpad using the note (applying very light pressure)

and viola it started working - try this out with caution. your welcome.

Same issue, over two separate computers, and two separate devices.

My wife has an M1 Air, And I have a 2019 16inch.

Anyway we both have track pads, and one started with this issue. Now both have the issue. When you plug it in, or restart it, the haptic feedback works for a few minutes then... 10 - 20 minutes maybe hour later... it stops working and the haptic goes away (very disorienting). At this point we have dumped the Magic Trackpad for all things which it is not essential for and only use it when we need gestures.

In the meantime ... until apple fixes this issue, or releases Magic 3 we have switched to Logitech Trackball.

Really though, I tried everything Followed all the guides, deleted the plist files, upgraded... we have delt with this for a year now. My guess is that some component in the mouse wears out or (more scary) it is some type of virus.

For a long time it was only her trackpad affected, but now it is both. We keep everything up to date but the only thing that gets it working properly is power-cycling. Then randomly it stops working again.

Hi Shinji722,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities.

We understand that your Magic Trackpad is not working for haptic feedback. To address this. Go to System Settings (System Preferences) > Bluetooth and right click on your Trackpad to remove it or choose the "x" next to the name and pair it again.

This creates a new pairing record.

When you connect your keyboard, mouse, or trackpad to your Mac, it automatically connects with the Mac using Bluetooth.
*Connect one end of a Lightning to USB Cable to your Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse 2, or Magic Trackpad 2 and the other end to the USB port on your Mac. Depending on your Mac, you may need an adapter, which is available from an Apple Store or on apple.com.

You can use your Magic Keyboard or Magic Trackpad 2 while it’s connected to your Mac. You can’t use your Magic Mouse 2 while it’s connected.

When you use Bluetooth to connect your keyboard, mouse, or trackpad with your Mac, you receive a notification that you can disconnect the cable and use your device wirelessly.

You can find these steps in Connect an Apple wireless accessory with Mac.

Regards.

Spent some time on the phone with apple support but was eventually referred for hardware repair :(

Trackpad doesn't click when connected to either mac we have in the house. Old mac is still running monteray and no luck there.

Tried re-pairing, off and on etc.

Has anyone downgraded MacOS to see if it helps? Apple support wanted me to restore from backup to see if it fixed it but I didn't want to bug around with that on the slim chance it fixes haptics.

Same probleme here with my Trackpad 2 on 2014 5K 27" iMac under BigSur 11.7.6...

No more haptic feedback since *today*. All I can do is activate the "touch for click" option. Now I can click, but drag and drop is not operating. My trackpad is otherwise in very good apparent condition, was always kept safe on the desk, never fell...

As a matter of fact the issue showed right after few days of warm weather. I tried the refrigerator fix, but did not work :(
