Dark mode stuck on iPhone 13 iOS 16

I'm having the same issue also. It randomly sets to dark. I'm not sure if it's because I keep it in my pocket/purse. I tried changing all the settings everyone talks about here and it keeps reverting back to dark mode. I have to power off my phone to try to make it go back and sometimes it still doesn't. Please help!!

Hey Judysings, not so fast! I'm having the same issue. It started out of the blue after charging. After reading about Babushki's success with upgrading to 16.1.2 I did the same. It worked, but only for a few hours!

I was able to get it back to normal for a bit after doing a reset (pressing volume up, then down, then holding power button until apple logo appeared), but that no longer works.

So frustrating!!! Where are the responses from apple??

thats does not work... i am having the same issue- dark mode ramdomly goes on and i need to re-start my phone. all the setting i have played with

16.1 seemed to fix the problem for me, but its just on the homescreen. Now it's light, but inside my apps are still dark. Ugh.

Have you checked whether you have an active Focus profile, set with a Focus filter that automatically switches to Dark/Light Mode when activated?

Go to Settings → Focus. Check each individual profile.

First notice "Set A Schedule" - are there any active, eg Smart Activation, Time etc. If so, tap in and delete. Below look for Focus Filters. If you see a box that says, for example, "Appearance Set to Dark", tap in and select Delete Filter.

Another quick way to fix it. If you don't use the Focus profiles, delete them completely. They can always set up again.

Tap on each individual profile, scroll to the bottom and select Delete Focus.

Folks - I have the same issue! It goes in Dark mode every now and after I restart! Can APPLE FIX THIS ISSUE? I am surprised that we have not found a solution this issue that has been discussed here for quite some time. We must have hundreds of Hardware and Software engineers and APPLE cannot fix the issue! Can we upgrade the IOS so that the issue disappears!

My iPhone is updated with iOS 16.3.1 and I am having the same issue with it automatically switching to dark mode. I’ve tried everything that I could find online. I’m very interested in a fix for this.

On my iPhone 13, you do a hard reset by pressing up and then down volume buttons, and then holding right side button down until Apple logo appears. I've tried it three times with no joy. I've turned off all auto and focus settings, etc. I have still have no control over the light or dark mode. My phone has a mind of its own. It switches modes whenever it knows it will irritate me the most which is pretty much anytime at this point.

I don't know anywhere on my phone other than the SIM card that has hole you poke with a paperclip.

My dark mode comes and goes randomly. I had already checked to make sure Smart Inverse was off and it was. If it was on, the dark mode would have been continuous instead of intermittent. Surely Apple has a solution for the problem others and I are experiencing.

This crazy issue has just occurred to me, after updating to 16.4.1. Very frustrating! I have tried all the recommendations without success. I hope Apple address it soon because I absolutely hate dark mode.

I still have the issue. Tried a number of solutions proposed here, but no resolution! I have a feeling may be we use some apps that cause this issue! I request SIRI to restart my IPHONE! I am usually good for a few days!

I think Apple needs to resolve and address this issue! Apple (with a Market Cap Approaching 3T) must have a huge number of people working on the software/hardware - let us get rid of this simple issue.

Now my phone is back to randomly switching between light and dark modes. Ugh! I think it started up again after downloading 16.4.1 (a).

Apple, "can you hear me now?" Please fix this issue or give me a new phone!!
