In PHOTOS how to expoert and import photos in sequence?

Hello,

I am getting more and more disappointed by apple mainly around PHOTOS & iCloud, so many things do not work .... it is crazy).

I try to do something very basic:

1.     Export (from MAC A) an album in sequence (the album is defined in a manual sequence)

2.     Import that album in another MAC B (PHOTOS) and display it in the same sequence as the original

Of course I export in sequence (pic 1, 2, 3, 4, etc) but when I import it goes total out of sequence and given I have a lot of albums I see there is no apparent logic, one display 1,2,3 and then 656, 657, and then 11 etc. The other album something totally different.

Also it is not the classical issue of 1, 10, 11….19, 2, 20, 21 etc

If someone has an idea it would be great !

Seems that Apple can't event do this....

thx

Regards,

Michael

hello Leonie, so first thank you, you seem more competent than the apple support....
I applied this on a mac with 20k photos and it worked but one problem remains....
The sorting is now going like 1, 10, 100, 101 to 109, 20, etc
An idea? I guess the script can be adapted to (probably add zeros in front of nor, eg, 001, 002, etc)

Many thx !

Michael, instead of batch exporting with sequential filenames you could prefix the titles in the album with padded numbers. Then export with the title as the filename.

When you export edited versions from Photos, they will keep the titles, and you can sort them by the title after reimporting.

Hello Leonie, "I allow myself" to come back to you on this (raison being that you really know what you talk about).

My issue with the above solution is:

  1. I have all my pics (100k) on my master MAC (proper sorted) --> I do not want to rename picture on this MAC (don't want to take any risk there + I have identical pictures in various albums)
  2. I make a manual extract that I copy on another MAC (for this I export the pic in sequence 1,2,3,4, etc)
  3. I applied one of your above recommendation that basically copy the file name into the picture title
  4. The problem now is that the sorting goes 1, 10, 11 etc. Now the solution you proposed above would require that I change the export sequence from my main MAC by renaming the pic on my main MAC (which I do not want to do). Would there be a script that I could run on my second MAC that would add those missing "0" for sorting properly the pic?

Many thanks for your great help,

regards,

Michael
