GMail not marked read on computer after reading on iphone

I’ve deleted my email acct from my phone a few times. Once completed, messages show read in gmail. A few days later, it beginning reading unread again. Is anyone else experiencing this recurring problem? It seems once the email is added/ reinstalled it is fixed for good. Thanks in advance!

I tried switching mail off and on. And even removed it and put it back from accounts. Still shows as unread at the gmail server even though it’s read on the iPhone. Can it be a setting in the gmail server?

I see other people with the same problem. I read gmail messages on my iPhone and delete them and on my computer they are all showing up unread. It's making me crazy to have to go into my computer to delete everything.

Any solutions???

Same issue with iphone and computer not syncing my gmail account. Tried the fix you suggested to no avail. Called Apple and they said to call google. I also believe it is an issue that started with IOS 16 update. Thanks Apple for the help!

I am having the same issue. I have tried all sorts of suggested solutions that I found online, but nothing has worked. My work account is syncing properly, but nothing I read and/or delete on my phone from my personal account is showing as read on my computer. It is syncing just fine in the other direction- everything I read and delete on my computer shows as read or does get deleted on my phone.

Same issue here. Works fine with 3 of my emails but a fourth email account (all gmail based) won't show my messages as read if I read them on my iPhone first. Very frustrating. Tried deleting the account on my MacBook Pro and re-adding it and that did not help at all. Also rebooted both devices. Still an issue.

I'm having the same issue. Thought I was going crazy because up until a couple days ago everything was working great. Also, when I read my emails on my laptop, they appear as "read" on my iPhone. But the reverse is not true. When I read them on my iPhone, they are showing up as "unread" on my laptop.

Somehow my iPhone Gmail account shows 33 unread messages, my laptop Gmail account shows 140, and logging into Gmail from Safari shows me 23 unread messages. My head is about to explode. LOL

Is it really Apple’s solution to delete accounts on multiple devices and then set them all back up again? That seems like a painful user experience. I just did the update to 16.4.1, and still have the same issue as many of the users above. I’ve spent the better part of today trying to address this with all of the other suggestions already to no avail.

I sincerely hope you're not developping software for a living, or you'd be the king of "works on my machine" ..

Sometimes, bugs are weird.. and one solution may apply to one device and not work on other devices..

It is the case here.. I also have this problem, did exactly what you said.. worked like a charm for 2 minutes.. and back to no sync.. I get new emails alright, but modifications and read status won't sync

I've had the same problem since the update. I followed all the directions listed here - turned it off, deleted & reloaded it. To no avail.

Me too. If I delete from iPhone it syncs with iPad but not the other way around.
