Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.

I am using a Mac Pro with Mac OS 13.2, an HP DesignJet Z9+ 44" and an Epson SureColor P600, over local ethernet network for the Z9+ or USB connection for the P600. I fear I am going to have to downgrade my Mac Pro back to Mac OS Catalina to get back to consistently working print dialog and presets. I was foolish enough to think Apple would not break important features in their upgrades to the OS. I wanted to have the enhanced Apple ID/iCloud security that Ventura added, but not at the expense of useable photo print quality.

It's shocking that Apple engineers did not test this software to make sure any new features did not break core functionality. Not just for photographers but for business users too. The Ventura print preset disfunctionality also messed up printing to our Xerox color copier at work. I had to photocopy a singe-sided printout of a safety manual at work to make up a couple of binders for users because the PDF would not print-double sided due to the Ventura "upgrade" to the print dialog breaking the printer features I had been using fine in Monterey. This has to be happening to a lot of people.

I am using an Epson ET-8550 printer connected by Bluetooth. I want to change from A4 plain paper, which is the default to A3 Semi Gloss. I make these changes by going into "Print" from the "File" drop down in "Pages" then go into "Paper Handling". "Scale to Fit Paper Size" which is greyed out I hit the button and can then change the "Destination Paper Size to A3. I then go into "Printer Options". "Printer Setting and change the "Media Type" to. Epson Premium Semi Gloss from the drop down. I then save this using "Save Current Setting as Preset" and get a new name. When I go back into the newly created preset it has reverted to greyed out A4 and plain paper.

I have tried resetting the print system on MacOS. This did not change the behavior. I.e., I am still unable to get Printfab settings to save in a print preset. This includes print resolution, color space, paper type, etc.

I am unable to print anything, even on a one time basis at this point, and have it end up with the correct resolution, color space, etc. This is a significant problem for my operation.

Currently running Printfab 2.98-1 which is the latest version for Ventura.

Apparently, no one prints photos in Mac Ventura OS! We must be the only ones! :-). I haven't even been able to find any in depth tutorials on using the Ventura print dialog and ICC profile settings when printing photos either from LR CC, PS, On1 PR or any other photo editor or even just printing directly from the print driver. I read something on the Adobe forums about Epson not placing the ICC profiles in the correct directory in Ventura for use with editors like Lightroom and On1 Photo Raw only in the color sync directory I have not looked into that possibility yet. But the profiles do seem to be working when soft proofing, so I'm not sure if that is correct info.

Re: Apple and Epson support employees: I had the impression those that I dealt with were just using "boilerplate" and stock answers from their computers. The apple support person said he checked with a developer and that person said their had been no reports of problems with the Ventura print driver. If professional photographers are reporting these issues, how can it be that Apple and Epson developers know nothing about it?

Indeed these issues are very surprising to me, as I always understood Apple Mac to be the computer of choice to the publishing and visual arts community. Microsoft seems to be more entrenched in the business world. Doing my homework recently on photo printing, I seem to be finding more using MS Windows than Mac. I'm sure it's difficult for these companies to ensure their operating systems work with third party hardware and software. I think MS has more of a challenge in that regard than Apple and yet they don't seem to be having these type of issues with photo printers. I'm assuming newer Epson and Canon printers are having the same problems, but that an assumption and I really don't know.

Hopefully Apple is able to fix these bugs soon.
