Airpods Pro 2nd gen case battery drain

Hello everyone, I have recently got AirPods pro 2nd generation and I believe I am experiencing case battery drain issues to some extent. I used the AirPods without ANC and listened to music for 2 hours and realized that the case dropped from 85% to 72% to charge the AirPods from 95% to 100%. With this pace, I can never reach the advertised 30 hours of play time even without ANC. Interestingly, it seems like the case is not losing much battery when it is in idle mode, so not being used. Is this normal behavior or do you think there is smt wrong with my AirPods?

yesterday i tried this method. My case was 21% and the pods were at 100% when i started listening to music. Then i drained the pods till 72% and put them back into the case. I check an hour later and the pods were at 96% and the case was at 8%. Then i did not touch them again. After 18 hours i checked the airpods. The right airpod had 52% battery while the left one was at 0% and the case was completely dead. I don’t understand this at all. How can they lose so much battery and completely drain even when they are idle. The apple store is really far from my town and last time i went they claimed that everything was fine wit my airpods but this is really frustrating. I hope it resets itself somehow after this complete battery drain

i tried to take out the buds from case and see if the case will drop the % again but I still think that it’s all about the buds because the case trying to keep the pods100% when they are in the case so if the pods drops even 1% even in the case the case will start charging all over and it will repeat always so I’m trying to do it and test it 1 hour passed it was at 90% after night drain so I’ll check it in 1-2 hour and see if it went below 90%

Why is mine dropping more then I wonder. As I say, I checked last night and was showing 100%. After taking the AirPods out of case, the case dropped 2% in about 10 mins. I then put AirPods back in (they were still showing as 100%). Then this morning I checked and it went from 98% to 86% overnight.

then dropped another 3% when pods in case and left at home for about 9 hours.

just don’t really know what’s normal. Have I got a bad pair as I’ve only had them for a week and they are brand new.

Ot could also be that you didnt insert one airpod correctly into the case, I have done that and my case keeps discharging and my airpods are never fully charged. Good way to find out when a discharge that big happens, is by pulling one airpod from the case then see the percentages for each airpod and see if one was not charging correctly.

I did wonder about this but I’ve reseated them and made sure they are in the case and charging so all seems ok there.

again over night (6-7 hours), case dropped 5 percent battery again.

I know before the update this was an issue with people but mine is up to date and I have also switched off ‘find my’.

my partners AirPod case bought at same time are only using a percent or 2 each day. So unsure why mine is draining more. Is it just hit and miss?

Ah you maybe right actually. I think I’ve just been doing the forget device and I then restart phone and start pairing process again.

so what I need to do then is hold the button on back until the light comes on and then pair again with phone. Do I need to forget device first on phone first?

yeah, the AirPods are on 5E133.

does the full reset often help with bugs like these?

Apr 18, 2023 10:44 AM in response to Daveyboy1234

First forget the device then press the back button on the case till it turns red/orange, thats a complete reset and hopefully that fixes the problem. Yes most definitely helps fixing bugs, specially after a firmware update that is meant to fix bugs that hace been there. Sometimes the bugs stay in cache and a hard reset will start the new firmware fresh.

That sounds about right, and dont get discouraged if it drains a couple of percentages al of a sudden, it will stop there. Mines drop 2% per day and usually its one percent right after the other, but it stops there and so on. So yeah it looks like its finally fixed. I did do a lot of research with mine, trying different things till I pin pointed the problem, the "notify me when left behind", that was the main problem. I should get paid by Apple lol. Well im goad to help and hopefully you can now enjoy your airpods without further worries

I Have updated to latest firmware, reset iPods, and turned off leave behind notifications. iPods are still draining about 12% every 24 hours without using them, if I use them then of course they drain even more. I don't believe the firmware has addressed this issue.

I have a pair of AirPods 3rd generation and they can sit in a drawer for days and not lose anything, maybe 1% every 3 days.

I really hope apple will come out with a fix for this, I have the airpods pro 1 gen and the case just drains and drains. Last thing I tried was to remove them from "find my" as some said this helped for them, but doesnt seem to help for me. I charged them to 100% Wednesday evening, then used them for like 1½ hours Thursday, and now Friday when I checked the case is at 72% already, this is not normal and never saw this in the past. In the past I could go 3-4 weeks with little use and the case would still be at 80% or more.
