iphone 14 pro won't switch from 5G to wifi

iphone 14 pro won't switch from 5G to wifi. In setting under wifi, there is a blue check next to the network I want to connect to, but in the upper right corner of the phone it still says 5G. I've reset the network settings to the default settings twice, reset router, and tried different wifi accounts. Does anyone know why the phone won't switch?

Hello annl31,

Resetting the network settings is a great troubleshooting step and we're glad you had the chance to complete the steps you have. In addition to those steps, have you checked to see if Wi-Fi Assist is enabled? If not, go in to Settings > Cellular, scroll down the screen and see if a green toggle is next to Wi-Fi Assist. If it's enabled, this would allow for cellular data to be used if a Wi-Fi connection has poor signal, which could explain why you're currently seeing 5G instead of being connected to Wi-Fi. You can learn more about Wi-Fi Assist in the following article.

About Wi-Fi Assist

For troubleshooting purposes, disable Wi-Fi Assist, then test to see if the issue persists.
