Whatsapp search

I have upgraded my phone to iPhone 14 pro max. It has been a nightmare. WhatsApp does not back up using any wi-fi, except at the Apple Store.

When trying to search for an old message, it keeps showing "preparing results (0%)".

I deleted the application and installed it again. I reseted my network settings. I signed off iCloud and signed back.

I am desperate. Went twice to Genius Bar, no solution. They asked to contact WhatsApp. WhatsApp asked to talk to Apple. Blaming each other with no solution.

Anyone facing the same problem?

I fixed it!!

I had the same issue and it takes like 20 minutes..

I started stucked in 1% then i went to icloud, apps using icloud, and deactivate whatsapp… came back to whatsapp and search something ans it was in 3%… the. go back to icloud and activate whatsapp… go back to Wsp and it was in 5%… back again to icloud, deactivate, and back again to whatsapp…. 7%…

and repeat the proces until 95% and it started to run alone…

now it works just like before..

Same thing happened to me, also upgraded to an iPhone14 pro, found this thread from a google search, anyways, there is a new iOS update for the phone, iOS 16.2, the update details dont say anything about there being a fix for WhatsApp specifically, but once downloaded, phone restarts, and boom! The "preparing results" began moving and is now finally (slowly) filling in!

There is hope people!!

I had similar issue, and after checking this forum, here’s what I did to resolve the issue:

go to WhatsApp search, then go to settings to turn off WhatsApp backup
go to WhatsApp search, then go to settings to turn on WhatsApp backup
keep doing steps 1 and 2 repeatedly

Each iteration I did, the search progress went up by about 9%. Keep repeating to get 100%

Hi Adriana,

Try to turn off WhatsApp icon from iCloud on both devices ( if you still have your old phone). Then wait a few min and turn it on again.. Settings>Your name> iCloud> Apps using iCloud ( show all) > Whatsapp

I think I found the fix (for me at least):

Open WhatsApp and search for a keyword.
While the app fetches the results, swipe-up and force close it.
Repeat steps 1 – 2 until Preparing Results reaches 100%.
When it shows 100% swipe-up and close the app one more time!
Finally, open WhatsApp again and search should work.

This worked for me. Opened whatsapp, search for a string, showed as 4%. Closed and reopened whatapp and searched for the same string again. Showed as 8% and repeated the same process till it showed 97% and then the next search was showing the desired results. Thanks for sharing the workaround!

I did Bekir’s way and then when its searching i just slide up whatsapp, come back it’s 2 % and it got stuck, i slide up again come back it was 5% and stuck, again slide up and it gets %8 and so on! After 40 slide ups it worked for some reason :)

setting, your name, icloud, show all, whatsapp keep turning off and on and everytime you do it, it will keep moving percentage and finally you will be able to search. I did it and i have full excess to search

Every time I rebooted the phone (shut down and switch on again) The “Preparing Results” percentage on WhatsApp search increased by 1-7 percentage.

so I rebooted a few time until it reaches 100% and the search results appeared right after this is resolved. 😅🤷🏻‍♂️

HI Bekir,

Don’t lose hope. Do the same again, for 10 minutes, and it will go to 100%. You have to be extremely patient (and it is not one of my virtues!)

The upgrade did not work, at least in my case.

However, Bekir solution did! It took days but it worked. I can now search!

I cannot back my history back, though.

I was able to back it up after I downloaded the upgrade but I tried today and it is on preparing status and not moving. Frustrating. But at least, the searching is up and running now.

In my case, thanks to the procedure explained in this thread, I’ve managed to obtain results when searching text! Finally I got rid of the ‘No results’ message. However it seems that new received messages are only updated in the search engine if I kill and re-open Whatsapp. I mean, I cannot search for a text which has just been received in a chat unless I kill and re-open Whatsapp. Anyone else experiencing this??
