iPhone 14 screen freezing during calls

My phone freezes while I’m talking on the phone. It’s been happening since I bought it in September. Anyone else experiencing this? Some of the things I’ve tried are numerous resets and gotten a new phone. I’ve been to Apple Store 4 times and called Apple support at least 5 times.

Same issue. Same phone. Have been trying to deal with Apple support since I got the phone back in October. Went through all the standard first level and second level tech support “fixes” with cumulatively probably 15 hours of calls. “Hard reset, must be a software issue with one of your apps, try a new device, try to setup as new, make sure you aren’t using any VPN software” all of which I have done. The replacement device did stop the problem for the longest period of time - which was nearly 2 months, but now it’s back. Latest senior rep, who was un-Apple like disrespectful, didn’t take the time to read the prior agents notes about the issue but basically said the same thing, try and do a hard reset but because the phone is now new, it’s clearly a software issue “with one of MY apps”. Very disappointed in company’s acknowledgement of issue and strategy to fix it. As one fellow user put it, the device does a lot of neat things we all appreciate, but when we aren’t able to use basic phone functionality - might be time to look for a different hardware provider unless someone in Apple senior leadership decides it’s a problem worth putting resources behind. Right now, we just aren’t a big enough voice for enough people to care - which is disappointing.


The strange thing is when I set up my replacement phone as new I only installed the apps that I absolutely needed and were so broadly used that any software issue would likely affect a much broader group, so that I could be sure it wasn’t a random app that was causing the issue but still the issue is presenting almost daily again - certainly daily whenever I have a bunch of calls - which is virtually everyday.


and don’t let them tell you that it’s likely a corrupted copy of your iCloud back up because I reinstalled each app from scratch and then did so over a hardwire connection as well.



I know I probably sound like just another disgruntled user, but if each call to Apple support did not take another 2 to 3 hours of time to complete and actually yielded some positive results. I probably would be a little less bitter.

Be careful what you write. While they can’t fix the issue with our phones they don’t want us to be truthful about the obvious predicament they have.

If apple could just fix this problem, nobody would be posting any rants or complaints that weren’t constructive.

how can we be constructive when we keep getting shafted and told to waste more time with someone else who can’t help.

This happens to me every single day on my 14 pro max, it is beyond frustrating! The Genius Bar ran diagnostics and we tried to recreate the problem but of course it wasn't happening when I needed it to. We even restored my phone from backup without apps. Nada. My current workaround attempt is changing the setting so the lock button does not end calls. It is under settings>accessibility>touch>prevent lock to end call. Hoping this works for now!

For me it is any amount of time. I walk home from work & call my boyfriend daily on these walks which are only about 10-17 minutes and it is frozen by the end of every single call. Yesterday I was able to lock and unlock the phone without it hanging up on him though now that I’ve changed that setting.

I really don’t believe that they can fix it. My first phone was replaced and I was told it would need a new motherboard and new display to fix it. I opted for a replacement phone as it was less than a week old. The replacement phone did the same thing plus the next one I bought plus the one I bought for my daughter. So consider your frustration and triple it.

I’m not wasting any more of my time talking to tech support. It’s a dead end street.

This has also happened to me. The Apple tech suggested replacing the screen, which was done but did not solve the problem. If it’s not hardware, then obviously it’s a very annoying software problem that Apple engineers have not solved. Why is it taking so long to fix something that affects so many users? (I do realize that there are gazillion possibilities of conflict but there should be an app that finds the source of these issues.)

Went through Apple care, the store, $20.00 to park downtown, then nothing, then supervisor who wanted me to mail for repair, then replaced, then paid for new Belkin ultraglass a 2nd time and FIRST DAY IT FREEZES.


It happens, not when in an app... just on the phone.

The support guys all said.... oh never heard, freezing happens for multi reasons and people not knowing how to use their phone,....

Same issue since having the phone sept 2022. Been to the Apple Store several times which is so time consuming. Been on the phone with apple care too. Beyond frustrating and so disappointed that I upgraded. Should have just replaced the battery on my 11pro. Never had a single issue with that phone.

I have had my 14 pro max since November 2022 and I have been facing freezing problem since the first day. It only happens when I get a call, the screen freezes and the only thing I can do is to press the power button and decline the call. I have contacted Apple support numerous times, each time explaining the issue all over again. I have followed every instruction they gave, and even sent a video proving the issue, but it's never enough. They keep asking for more data, like uploading logs, but even that wasn't sufficient. They never call back or help in any way, they just pretend to be caring and trying to solve the problem. I too believe that they dont know what's causing the problem. I couldnt even get a replacement, as I guess that's out of the question in Turkey. I too regret buying this phone.
