Gapless looped playback not working after iOS/iPadOS 16.2 update

I am using the Apple Music app on both my iPhone XS and iPad Pro 10.5".

When I set the playback mode to "Repeat 1" and listen to any track that should loop seamlessly (for example, a continuous rain sound), there is a 1 second gap when the track restarts.

This obviously ruins the experience - can anyone else reproduce this?

The problem didn't occur prior to iOS/iPadOS 16.2.

Things I have tried that make no difference to the problem:

Using AirPods vs built-in speakers
Disabling Lossless Audio
Disabling Sound Check

I noticed that if I manually scrub forward to the end of the track, it repeats without a gap. But of course that isn't helpful.

Thank you very much for checking.

I have just spoken again to Apple Support who have confirmed:

1) The issue is recognised as problem affecting multiple users and is being worked on (since 6 January).

2) For some users the problem started with iOS/iPadOS 16.1.

3) There is no workaround.

I’ve raised an incident and had a live call from an agent. They’ve taken a diagnostic log from my phone and are investigating.

I have noticed that on my 16.2 iPhone I cannot play tracks without a gap between them. Hope they issue a fix soon!

update, everything works gaplessly fine for me with Dolby Atmos turned off on phone and home app for speakers. Fix for Dolby Atmos needed, otherwise it’s hassle turning it on/off for spatial/gapless
