Display battery charging progress

LD, you are becoming a master on Apple Watch. You are indeed correct and the OP had Nightstand Mode set up on their watch. Apparently or perhaps by mistake, they may have turned that feature off.

To the OP:

1. On your iPhone, open the Watch app.
2. Tap General.
3. Scroll down and tap the switch for Nightstand Mode to toggle it on.

The ONLY way for your screen to show the time and battery charging percentage while on the charger IS Nightstand Mode. Otherwise, the screen IS supposed to go dark while charging and stay off until you wake the watch. And even using Nightstand Mode, the screen on your watch should go dark, but awaken with a slight tap to the table the watch and charger are sitting on.

The bottom line here is, if your watch was staying active (the screen never going off while charging) that was not how it's supposed to work or designed to work. We can't help you get something back that should not have been in the first place.

Are you saying that if you tap the face while on the charger you don't see the charge progress ?

Tapping the face is not so bad by the time you get to the cat-proof location?

What happens if you tap a few times on the furniture top that the charger is sitting on while the watch is charging?

Yes, totally serious.

My watch is not set for the always-on display, so it goes dark after a few seconds of viewing. After I place it on the stand with the charging puck on the nightstand next to my bed, it goes dark. But if I tap the nightstand the watch lights up and shows the charging ring with the amount of charge.

It's a great feature for sure. But I can't use it. We have cats. They like to chew things. We charge our Apple Watches where they won't be a temptation to the kitties. With all the great Apple things I own, I still use an old fashioned, but surely modern alarm clock.

Cats are so weird! I’ve had to replace multiple charging cables. Now, all of them are either covered in the braided stuff or, if they’re just USB cables, I buy the ones with metal coverings. But, at least that stuff isn’t too expensive. Watch bands, on the other hand…..!

OMG.....that is priceless! Our Bluepoint Burmese does this from the moment the first hints of light in the early morning. Drives us crazy. We have some dried flowers in a vase on the vanity in the bathroom, and if walking all over us, purring, bumping, digging or nothing else works, she'll pull the vase down to make a thunk loud enough to ensure we wake enough to yell at her. Success! She knows she has successfully awakened us! We now put the vase in the under-sink cabinet so she can't have access to it.
