I tried all of this for my MacBook Air, and finally reached out to my company's tech support. They gave these simple steps that worked and said that I needed to "add the printer by choosing a generic printer driver":

1. Open "System Preferences"

2. Click on "Printers & Scanners"

3. Click on the + icon on the left-hand side

4. Select your printer from the list, then click on the dropdown next to "Use" and click on "Generic PCL Printer" (I had to wait a couple seconds for this option to appear in the drop-down, it wasn't there at first)

5. Click "Add"

6. Test the printer to ensure that it is working

Enter your IP address in a new browser; and login. Navigate to Network and advanced settings, network security settings to get to certificates. Choose "create a new self-signed certificate" and follow the prompts. It worked great for me after trying eight hours of things that didn't. I have Monterey 12.6.2 on a mid-2015 mac. Good Luck.

Hopefully this works for you, it worked for me. Go to Apple: "system preferences" go to "printer and Scanners" Then left click on your printer and "reset printing system". Then click the + a the bottom to add your printer again. Add the printer by right clicking on the top one "Epson WF-4630 Series Bonjour Multifunction" on the bottom for Use: select "AirPrint" then to the bottom select "Add". Then it should work.

I was able to fix mine by updating the self-signed certificate. I did this by entering the printer's IP address into a new browser window. Once on the printer webpage, I opened the network security settings page then clicked the certificate link. I then clicked UPDATE on the self-signed certificate option. Once the certificate was updated, my printer now works as expected. I am not a techie, so hope this makes sense. Thanks again to user cl8rqtpi for guidance.

I would check out EpsonNet Config Utility. The printer needs to generate a new certificate. HP and Canon use a web interface to go through the steps. I just finished doing this with my Canon photo printer. I don't have an Epson so I can't be more specific.

This error occurs when the Printer's web certificate has expired.

For me, to resolve this problem, I had to go to the printer's web interface, typically using https://<your_printer_name>.local/ and from there, you go to the following menu option:

Network Security Settings -> SSL/TLS -> Certificate.

From there, you choose the "Update" button form the "Self-signed Certificate" section.

This will have you go through the generation of a new self-signed certificate for your printer's web GUI which is also what Apple uses as it goes over HTTPS when communicating with your printer. I left the "10 year" suggested value for the "Certificate Validity (year)" field, this way I don't run into this problem for quite a long time.

Following that certificate update, I removed and re-added the printer from the Apple settings, didn't need to go through any of the Epson utilities.

I can’t tell if there’s new firmware for that model, as the HP website is showing an error:

Contact HP support.

Local preference is Brother non-subscription models with AirPrint support.

If the printer queue with an expired certificate is still listed in Printers & Scanners— remove it and re-add the printer.

The new certificate should be renewed.

I do this from CUPS management   through the browser:   http://localhost:631/admin/

if no interface, then  from Terminal.app  copy & paste:

cupsctl WebInterface=yes

After 8 hours of trying to solve the issue, I generally followed the advice on the below link (some things were different); it worked great. No errors with printing. For reference, my mac is mid-2015; monterey 12.6.2. Printer is an old epson wf-3620. Good luck!

I recently upgraded to MacOS Monterey 12.6.2 and my EPSON WF-5620 printer stopped printing documents.

All prints ended up in the queue which was permanently paused.

I did try deleting and re-adding the printer back, as well as the resetting the printer system, neither of these two options worked for me.

Somewhere I came across the error message that the Encryption credentials has expired.

Updating the certificate certainly worked for me too.

One of my clients has this issue with a Mac running Monterey (since updated to Ventura) Ive created the new certificate and removed and added the Epson printer. No option to choose AirPrint and it is still the same. Ive read that this is an issue with Mac's new strict security on these apple pages but the solution was not there. Ive checked the self signed certificate and it's definitely valid until Jan 2033. Can anyone offer any other solution than create certificate and reset printing system please

I have Ventura 13.3 and I cannot right click on the printer and there is no option for AirPrint. I did however see, on one of my many searches and adding and removing the printer that it was already set on AirPrint. So, where do we go from here. I have spent countless hours on this.

Hi. I have the exact same problem. Elwin WF-4630 and Ventura 13.2

i removed the printer, went to add it, but for “Use” I can choose Epson WF-4630 (auto select) or “select software” which gives me a dozen options but no “AirPrint”

Best answer -- should be the accepted one. The other ones I tried, including ones that suggest a reboot, did absolutely nothing to solve the problem. This took a few seconds plus the time for the printer to restart, and then I could print again from all the computers in the house.
