Mac Mini M2 wifi issues

New Mac Mini M2 has constant issues with wifi. Its unusable. Ethernet works perfectly, but when using wifi the connection will consistently drop packets. Wifi works perfectly with older Mac mini M1, MacBook Pro, Intel Mac in the same small office. I have turned off all other devices and still have same issue. Did a factory reset and same issues.

**Solution discovered** (but Mac MUST release a fix for this soon. Very unhappy with my new Mac Mini M2 Pro.)

it is a problem with Wi-Fi 6 routers that combine all the bands under one SSID (Wi-Fi name).

If you have Spectrum, their “smart” router doesn’t have the function to separate the bands and therefore will NOT work. You need to get another router and the bands have to be named separately as others have said in the posts.

this is an issue that shouldn’t be an issue, and I’m surprised no fix has come for this yet so regular people don’t have to become network professionals to get their internet to work!

I'm curious about what further testing of Cable-2 and Cable-3 using Method B will show. It'd be nice to be able to use the Mac mini's HDMI port for a display so the Thunderbolt/USB-C ports could be used for other purposes other than a display. I wonder why using an HDMI to DVI cable is so bad even while grounding the HDMI plug to the Mac mini. What are results of grounding HDMI to DVI using your hand, same as paperclip grounding?

I wonder if there is any way to alert Apple hardware technicians of this forum thread.

I've not been able to find any information on the Ugreen HDMI cable with model number 20276. At any time did you read anywhere that it was shielded? And it would be giving off 2.4GHz EMI not 5GHz, so I wonder why grounding your HDMI plug made such a difference. Unless 2.4GHz electromagnetic interference is affecting something else that is then affecting Wi-Fi. You might want to try an HDMI cable that is listed as being shielded to see if it would work without your having to ground the plug to the top case of your Mac mini.

No, never tried. I use my machine for work, so do not want to mess with it.

Once I realised that replacing my previous set-up of one HDMI cable to one screen and a second Thunderbolt to HDMI to the second screen with a pair of matched USB-C to HDMI cables (Silkland USB-C to HDMI Cable 4K from Amazon) resolved all my problems, I left it alone.

So I have a Mac Mini 2 Pro that now works perfectly but with a redundant HDMI port (and loss of one Thunderbolt port because of that) but it works great and I will leave it like that.

I cannot see Apple taking all those machine back and reworking the HDMI port, but I assume they have changed the manufacturing of new ones to avoid the problem? If so, try taking yours back for exchange.

They are already aware. A few of us have had phone calls from Apple Support engineers from Austin, Texas, who have remote connected to our Macs, had issues demonstrated to them, and they've collected megabytes of diagnostic files.
