Mac Mini M2 wifi issues

New Mac Mini M2 has constant issues with wifi. Its unusable. Ethernet works perfectly, but when using wifi the connection will consistently drop packets. Wifi works perfectly with older Mac mini M1, MacBook Pro, Intel Mac in the same small office. I have turned off all other devices and still have same issue. Did a factory reset and same issues.

Chiming in to say I'm still having the same issues. Thankfully I have access to ethernet in my spot in my home office, which is the ultimate band-aid fix. If I didn't, my computer would be unusable. Sadly, I've found it more convenient to just plug it in and let it ride with poor wifi but a strong hardwire connection.

Some other bandaid fixes that have worked for me:

  • Turning the Mac Mini on its left side (with the front facing power light toward the top increases the signal strength. The wifi antennas must be on the right side of the device. I also bought a plastic Mac Mini stand to keep it propped up well.
  • Minimizing the use of the thunderbolt ports in the Mac Mini. When I'm using 2 or fewer of the 4 thunderbolt ports in the back of the computer, my Signal to Noise ratio (SNR) is in the high 30s, with about 30% signal noise. As soon as I plug in a 3rd (and 4th) device to those thunderbolt ports, the noise goes up into the mid 50s and the SNR drops to the low 20s. So if you're able to, try not plugging too many things in to the back of the computer. (Hilariously depressing that a solution to this problem is to not utilize your $2500 computer to its full potential.)
  • Again, this computer would be UNUSABLE if I did not have access to ethernet. The Wifi is awful, while every other device on my gigabit network thrives wirelessly.

I've also had some issues with my OWC Thunderbolt 4 Dock with transferring data from one drive to another (both being plugged into the dock). Not sure if this is an issue with the Power Delivery of the dock or its relationship to the computer, or something with Ventura or Silicon. All of these things feel like a symptom of the same issue, but I can't be sure.

Truly depressing that Apple has put out a product that is borderline unusable unless the consumer uses a specific setup. I can't believe this thread with almost 300 replies and tens of thousands of views has still been ignored by Apple. A huge betrayal of the company's power users. Shame on them.

I have had my M2 mini a week and it uses WiFi as its only connection. I have an AirPort Extreme and 5 Airport Express's and this network works fine with my M1 Air and iPad mini and iPhone XR. All my network components are up to date.

the M2 is constantly dropping the network. Restarts and repairing disk permissions does not help. It has made the mini essentially unreliable.

any thoughts about stabilizing the settings?

Same issue. Getting very slow WiFi speeds. My previous Mac Mini (a 2012) doesn’t have this issue. It took about fifteen minutes to download chrome. The download halts, then starts again. Tried restarting to no avail.

In fact, there’s a lot wrong with the devices from Apple as of late. I initially purchased the M1 mini, but returned it because its HDMI port didn’t work with my smart TV. The 2012 Mac mini had no issue with HDMI (same cord and everything). Come to find the M2 has the same issue too! AND its Wi-Fi just doesn’t work. This is it for me and Apple, I can’t deal with all these **** headaches.

Apple reached out to me to get more information about this issue, I spent almost 2 hours on the phone with them, went through every single detail of my configuration and was able to reproduce the issue while they were collecting logs.

They said they are reaching out to people on this thread and they are paying close attention to the issue given that is a new product.

Hopefully we’ll get a fix soon, this is very frustrating.

The wifi on my Mac Mini M2 Pro dropped constantly. I returned it the first day. I'm on my second one now and it's even worse. Ethernet is not an option for me.

No one had the store was aware of this issue. I spoke with customer service on the phone and only the high up techs were aware.

I was going to return this one again and get a customized Mac Mini M2, but I don't know....

Also having this issue. Multiple computers in this room connect to my mesh router without problem. New mini replaces a 2012 iMac at the same position which had rock solid wifi. Now I've got horrific ping times , lots of dropped packets, and regular intervals of no connection on 2.4 and 4ghz networks. Tried everything I've seen on this thread with no improvement until I connected the mini via ethernet to the mesh node directly and now I have a nice consistent connection aided by a $100 external antenna. I'm really hoping this is a software issue but my hunch is it's a physical design problem with antenna shielding as I did notice some minor improvement by moving the mini as far from interference as possible.

Same issue hear, bought it last week. The main pattern is that at first (e..g. after reboot) 5 GHz works Ok for a bit, then starts to occasionally experiences brief hangs, then gets real slow, then disappears altogether. 2.4 GHz eventually goes to. Also, I while I can connect to my iPad to use as a second screen or to link mouse and keyboard, it's ususable as the cursor just skips around the ipad due to the poor connection. I've tried every suggested fix I can find online, a couple worked for a few hours but the problem returned. Right now I am using an ethernet connection to wifi extender in order to get usable wifi, which isn't ideal but I am hoping to not have to return the thing as otherwise it's great.

My M2 Mac mini pro 32/19 is having big time ethernet issues. (Web pages load slow3-5 seconds or more), online games have latency and fortunately my music software isn't affected. Wi-fi works but not fully since I don't have a wi-fi6 router. I have a 1g up/down internet connection and the M1 Mac mini I also own is not suffering any of these issues. tried multiple cables, ports etc. The weird thing is a speed test shows no speed issues. It is just the apps and safari. I can't figure this out. Could there be an ethernet driver issue?

I'm having wifi issue with our m2 mac mini as well.

My internet plan is 150 and I'm getting about 60Mbps download 30~35Mbps upload, sometimes worth.

I get 150~170 Mbps, both upload and download, on all other devices on the same wifi network including two iPhone 13s, 2 iPads (m1 ipad pro & ipad gen 6), and my work issued Thinkpad x13 gen 2 amd. Even 10 years old late 2012 MBP had no issue getting the 150 up/down.

We sold 10 year old late 2012 MBP to upgrade to this mini, and it's really disappointing to see this wifi issue. Especially when internet/wifi is almost necessary, key function in this age. Our newest tech purchase has the slowest wifi.

And, all this network setting/troubleshooting mentioned in this thread seem very techinical and an average consumer shouldn't need to worry about this in my opinion.

Is this a hardware issue or something that software update can fix? I need to make a decision to return this or not... and pretty soon.

Hi, Just bought a mac mini m2 and have this exact same issue.

When connected to wifi, the speed is too bad, and often it just stops working. I have a macbook pro just next to the mini and wifi connection works as expected.

I'm thinking on returning it since working this way is impossible, I had to buy a wifi access-point and connect the mac via ethernet.

I would love some feedback from Apple, acknowledging the issue and saying that they are working on a fix.

I love the machine, but this issue make it completely useless
