can’t access locked notes

When I attempt to open locked notes on my iPhone 6s plus, I get a message saying “Unsupported Note

This note uses unsupported features. To view or edit it, upgrade to the latest version of iOS”

These notes were created on the phone. The phone is running iOS 15.7.3 and software update indicates that iOS is up to date. Can anyone tell me what is going on?

It must be because the iPhone 6S cannot be updated to iOS16? I have not heard this problem before.

You can access your notes online at icloud.com. Find them in there and remove the lock so you can access the notes from your iPhone 6S, or open them and copy them to a platform your iPhone 6S can read.

Sign in with your Apple ID and find the Notes app:
