how can I bring back my notes on my iphone? they have disappeared and I didn't delete them..no recently deleted folder to be found on iphone in notes or on icloud.com account. Have updated my ipad and iphone to latest ios...checked mail accounts and all show notes turned on to sync

Have you recently removed any accounts from the device? If so, the notes may have been associated with that account:
Check your account settings
If you store your notes with a third-party account or email service, like Gmail or Yahoo, check your settings:
1. In the Settings app, tap Mail.
2. Tap Accounts, then tap the email account that you want to check.
3. Make sure that Notes is on.
If you use Notes with more than one email account, just repeat the steps for each account. If your account is missing, learn how to add an email account to your device.
If the missing notes were linked to iCloud Notes, and aren't visible on any other devices, then you may try reaching out to Apple Support here for a further investigation: Apple Support
