5g not working since iOS 16.4 upgrade

I have noticed that after the iOS 16.4 upgrade on my iPhone 13 Pro Max that the Verizon 5g cellular network is not connecting. It is stuck using LTE. Prior to the upgrade I had 5g cellular network connection. I have restarted the phone, reset network settings, and checked that 5g auto is chooses in the cellular network settings. Nothing seems to bring back 5g.

Have you installed the latest carrier settigns update?


  1. Make sure that your device is connected to Wi-Fi or a cellular network.
  2. Tap Settings > General > About.
  3. Follow the onscreen instructions to install your carrier update.

You cannot make that assumption.


5G service is a combination of the account and your device.


The SIM alone doesn’t define whether your phone will “see 5G,” but rather the phone’s frequency range dictates whether the cellular tower can provide the service.


As different models of iPhones support different service modes, you cannot just move the SIM and pronounce differences to be due to the phone unless it is the exact same model.
