External hard drive not mounting after Ventura update
Is anyone else having problems mounting their external hard drive after the software update (Ventura 13.3)?

Is anyone else having problems mounting their external hard drive after the software update (Ventura 13.3)?
I've had the same issue with 2 different Seagate NTFS drives. With my first drive (a 4TB drive), I spent a fair amount of time troubleshooting the issue last night, and while the drive was still functioning in Windows, I accidentally made things worse when trying a terminal command from a support forum, which now means the drive isn't accessible in Windows either. I've had to purchase recovery software for $70+ to recover my files now. I was beginning to think that the issue was with the drive, but today I connected my 1TB Seagate NTFS drive and had the same issue - drive not connecting via Paragon NTFS for Mac, even after updating to Ventura 13.4.1. and updating Paragon NTFS to 15.9.329. The drive is accessible in Windows. I can however access my Seagate Expansion drive.
I am bitterly disappointed with Apple on this one:
My recommendation if you have this issue, is to backup your drive, format it for Mac OS, and then copy the files back onto it... because who knows when the drive won't work on Mac anymore.
Hi. Thanks for your insights. I already got it done. This is what I did.
Step 1.
I copied around 600gb data from one of the NTFS WD 4TB to an old 1 TB drive using my old MacBook Pro (Late 2013)
Step 2.
Then Formatted the NTFS 4TB drive to ExFat using my MacBook Pro M1Pro
Step 3.
Transferred the 4TB data on my other NTFS drive to the ExFat formatted 4TB drive using the MB Pro M1 Pro(Took around 16 hours and 20mins for the transfer)
Step 4
Formatted the 2nd NTFS drive to ExFat using my MB Pro M1 Pro
Step 5
Uninstalled the NTFS program from my new MacBook after multiple cross checks whether all my data is safe.
I now can access both my HDDs on write/read mode.
Thanks Again.
I have used the paid version of NTFS for Mac for years. This mounting issue for NTFS drives only occured for me after updating MacOS to Ventura 13.3.1 (April 7, 2023), not Ventura 13.3. I uninstalled the old version, downloaded the new version, and re-installed, and now it works fine. Thanks for the thread.
I thank you and everyone for your help in this matter. I thought I had lost my Seagate External Drive forever after the Mac Ventura OS 13.3 update around March 30, 2023. I have just updated to the latest Mac Ventura OS 13.3.1 on April 29, 2023 before uninstalling the latest Paragon NTFS mounting software. I found some of pennypoets suggestions helpful. Thank you, pennypoets. Pennypoets was right in having people uninstall the current Paragon NTFS mounting software at this website link
How To Uninstall Microsoft NTFS For Mac By Paragon Software. I found the cut and paste method via terminal the easiest in these instructions. After uninstalling Paragon, just restart your Mac. And then, you'll see your External drive once again. I was so happy and relieved. There's no need to buy any new software from the Paragon software company.
I was wrong on one thing. The $19.95 Paragon Software is needed to make your Mac's external hard drive both readable and writable, otherwise it'll be a readable only disk. After installing the software, restart your Mac and then you'll be able to write files onto the external hard drive.
I totally understand your frustration. What you have to do is uninstall your current Paragon software for your external hard drive. The new $19.95 Paragon Software is needed to make your Mac's external hard drive both readable and writable, otherwise it'll be a readable only disk. After installing the software, restart your Mac and then you'll be able to write files onto the external hard drive.
Here’s a helpful website to help with uninstalling the outdated Paragon NTFS software and getting the current software for your Mac.

Hope it helps you. 😊
It is May 7th and I am having this problem with my Western Digital 8TB external. I tried it on my ancient Mac Pro desktop and it worked fine. No wires or plug issues. I am confident it is the Ventura update which I carried out about a week ago. Buzz kill.

Is there a way, perhaps using Windows or Linux, to tell if SSD came with NTFS support?
Almost every consumer drive on the market comes formatted as NTFS. You have to reformat the drive to put it in a useable state.
After update to Ventura 13.3.1 (a) external WD (5Tb) drive would no longer mount ntfs partition. (partitioned to apfs 3Tb and ntfs 2Tb. I followed the instructions from previous post to uninstall NTFS for Mac, rebooted, reinstalled from provided link to version 15.10.593. The ntfs partition now mounts but is read-only. Because it's read-only I can't run First Aid from Disk Utility. The ntfs partition is fine as I can access and write it from Windows 10 on BOOTCAMP. Any ideas?
You have to go to the Paragon software company’s website and download the latest software. It costs $19.95. This will solve the problem. I hope it will help you. Look at Pennypoets post for the download link.
After updating to Ventura 13.3.1 (a) my external WD (5Tb) drive would no longer mount ntfs partition. (partitioned to apfs 3Tb (for Time Machine) and ntfs 2Tb. I followed the instructions from Pennypoets' post to uninstall NTFS for Mac, rebooted, reinstalled from provided link to version 15.10.593. and rebooted. The ntfs partition now mounts but is read-only so I see no point in having the free version of NTFS for Mac as macOS already supports ntfs read-only AND I am loath to pay for NTFS for Mac with full read-write capabilities as my computer came with that program and option preinstalled. The ntfs partition is fine in Windows 10 from BOOTCAMP. I can see from the other posts there is no solution (other than $$$) so am expressing my displeasure.
If this is a really old hard drive that was originally formatted as HFS and not HFS+ Journaled, then I don't believe Ventura will mount it. It certainly won't mount any drive formatted with a Linux or otherwise incompatible filesystem.
I had a new SSD, formatted by Disk Utility, while running Monterey on MacBookPro (M1-Pro, USB-C to USB-C) . Did one Time Machine backup.
Updated to Ventura ( and firmware too ?) now doesn't recognize that the drive is even plugged in.
Booted to recovery (i.e. no OS ) and Disk Utility does not see it!
Works fine on another MacBook Pro (early 2015, running Monterey, USB-A to USB-C)
Apple care suggested a very unlikely idea: connect drive to USB-C to USB-A cable and USB-A to USB-C cable and that WORKS!
Say What!! Really I don't believe it but it does work!!
This is to anyone really... anyone know if Apple plans to fully address this? Suddenly reformatting every external drive I own is definitely not an option, especially when they only have been for mac for the last few years.
It doesn't seem to be a universal problem for all Mac users on Ventura. I've had absolutely no problem and the number of people here with the problem in in the hundreds. What will several million Ventura users out there.
If the NTFS software isn't doing it for you then find some that will.
macOS 13.4 was released a couple of days ago. Have you updated to it? If not you should.
Uploaded update the NTFS for Mac @May2023.
NTFS for Mac then opened my WD 2TB SSD and allowed read and write.
All good.
[Before doing this it was panic mode...and am considering back up somewhere. Any suggestions? Cloud service, Apple Google etc?]
