Apple TV app plays dark

Apple TV movies are very dark on my LG TV. If you have a solution please speak in lay terms. My Apple desktop set is brand new. Same happens with Roku desktop set. So clearly this is LG TV specific.

Again, please respond in lay terminology. Don't understand "ramma gamma ding dong" language.

Thanks.

Same problem. Apple support tried various solutions, including creating a new user on laptop. Booked into Genius bar, but stumbled on a solution: every time I logged in, a message appeared saying 'Display Intensity On'. Found it turned OFF in settings / accessibility, BUT slider control was not set to 'normal'. Reset it to 'Normal' and problem disappeared!!

Hope this works for someone else.

Had the same problem with movies being too dark on the Apple TV app. I switched to watching in a web browser on my iPhone and MacBook, worked fine there. But yeah, still dark on the Apple TV box. Spent a bit of time on this site with different tips and found out HDR on the Apple TV was the issue. They've got like 10 different things to try, might help you too: https://pointerclicker.com/why-are-apple-tv-movies-so-dark/

there is definitely a problem with the apple TV+ App on my desktop. It does play way too dark. I'm trying to watch Silo, and it's almost unwatchable it's so dark. There are no setting, and my Macbook Pro M1 display is super bright. Someone suggested deleting and reinstalling the app-but it's a native app so you can't uninstall it. The problem is with the desktop app. I found a work around. Don't use the native app. Instead, stream it on Chrome or Safari at a TV.apple.com. There, it plays just fine. Thus, it's not the computer and it's not the way Apple produced the Silo series (and other Apple content). The problem is the Apple TV + App and I can't get Apple to take this issue seriously. They keep saying they are not aware of the problem.

Hi FranTheMan,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities.

To make the content brighter in Apple TV+, you can adjust the display settings on each device. You can also change the contrast on Apple TV app.

* In Settings in the Apple TV app TV app, go to Accessibility >  Display > Focus Style, then choose High Contrast.

Increase Apple TV app screen contrast - Apple Support

My LG 55" G3 is 3 months old and the questions apply rarely; but, will occur. In every instance I've been able to get everything sorted to my liking. I wouldn't call the occurrence especially dark; but, it can be dimmer than usual. Only suggestion at this distance, is to remember to check appropriate box to "use settings for all attached devices". Seems to assure more lifespan to the adjustment. Though I find the LG will require re-fiddling once in a while.

BTW, I start out with Brightness at 90 on a scale rising to 100. Match contrast, clarity, etc. to that as standard. Always leaves me enough fiddle room.

And, I admit...I'm an inveterate fiddler with tiny settlings. But, I've been so happy with my 55" G3, I'm planning on sticking with LG from here on out - after years of being devoted to Samsung and Sony. Especially with LG's leadership in OLED tech.

Which technology is your LG? I have what was newest LG OLED [until this week or so ... getting tempted, again with latest additions]. In practice, unless I set ALL my TV apps to be identical, I find myself with differences of ab't 10% from app to app. Not a PITA to adjust because I swing that much between our bright high desert sunlight and middle of the night watching.

Slight variations of brightness, contrast and color from app to app is about all. I do not use any of the settings that reflect room ambience, I have had problems with those in the past; so, just don't turn them on anymore.

The problem is the Apple TV app. Rather than use the defective app, just stream the content from apple using any browser. It works fine. I did a side by side test using the apple content on my mac. One side of the screen was the streaming content from apple, the other side was the same exact video using the apple tv+ app on the mac. You can clearly see that the apple tv+ app version was very dark. It's like the "pause overlay" goes into effect in the app and won't release once playback begins. I don't know why apple cant fix this. However, I like the apple tv+ content so rather than cancel, I'll justs stream it instead. I called apple and they keep saying they haven't heard of this problem. This flies in the face of the hundreds of complaints I see on line.
