MacBook Air M2 - Unresponsive after sleep mode

Anytime the computer goes into energy saving or sleep mode, I have to press the power/fingerprint scan button to get the MacBook to come back on. When it comes back on, but the other keys and trackpad do nothing, not working. I reboot the computer, they work again until the next time it enters sleep mode.

  • Just started happening after about 4-5 months ownership.
  • ran diagnostic and said no issues found
  • external mouse works

Further to the above, I found that both R/H hot corners, when switched to 'Sleep' will send the MacBook Air 2022 into a non-responsive coma. The key-board remains bright, and sometimes a tune plays from Music, but the screen remains black. The Apple Menu 'sleep' functions normally.

It happens to me in the same way. It seems to be of sporadic nature, although I notice that it also happens sometimes when I close the lid with an external display cable attached, remove the cable, and then open the lid again. The screen remains black but the keyboard is lit, so I have to force the reboot but pressing the touch ID button. I am a software engineer so perhaps it was some software I installed but I don't quite remember when it started happening so I have no clue about what caused it.

I have also encountered this issue with my MacBook Air M2. It has happened a few times after navigating the cursor to the hot corner that I assigned to put the display to sleep. No key combination seems to wake the display back up when it happens. Today I was able to confirm that the system is still responding to keyboard input even when the display is unresponsive, in case this helps Apple to diagnose it, or if that helps anyone else to save their work before rebooting. This issue most recently happened on my system with macOS 14.3.1. I just disabled the hot corner for sleeping the display to see if that helps.
