"Unable to Save Scanned Files"

I saw this addressed in an old query - but with a different scanner and os than I have. I'm using an iMac Late 2013 with Catalina - and an Epson XP-4100 All-in-one Printer/Scanner. It had been working fine - but just

recently started giving me the "Unable to Save Scanned Files" message. I went to the Epson site and followed the instructions - rebooted both machines, downloaded and installed the latest driver, reset all settings to default - still get the message. Anybody out there know anything else to try? Thanks!

I had the same problem - I resolved it when attempting to fix a permissions issue. I found that the access permissions had been removed for a bunch of programs after an upgrade (MacBook Air mid 2013 upgrading to Big Sur 11.7.10). System preferences>Security and Privacy>Full disc access + Files and folders. Unlock and allow access for Epsom etc. It worked for me and I hope it does for you too ;)

Report back if this is the fix. I am eager to know...

Troubleshooting "Unable to Save Scanned Files":

Reload the Epson Scanner 2 Utility:

  1. Reboot: The Mac and the Epson Scanner
  2. Reload: the Epson Scanner 2 Utility***
  3. Reset: all Settings

***Getting: Epson Scan 2 Utility:

A. See this Apple Discussion Post:

  1. Go Here: "Unable to save scanned files" msg from Epson 2 V600 on MacBook Monterey 12.6.2 - Apple Community
  2. As it Reads: "I rebooted both my MacBook and the Epson scanner, then reloaded the Epson Scan 2 Utility and reset all settings. The result was that scanned files could now be saved."

B. See this Post in Reddit:

  1. Go Here: Where (and how) can I download Epson Scan 2? - Reddit
  2. As it Reads: "Go to epson.com > support > scanners > [select your scanner] > scroll down to "drivers" > Scanner Driver and Epson Scan 2 Utility v6.4.87 > Download"

TheLittles - thank you for your reply. I did all those things already - except the first time I downloaded the "Package" driver at the top of the page instead of the Epson Scan 2 Utility. I just finished redoing all the steps, this time downloading the Scan 2 Utility, and reset all the settings to default. When I did a test scan, it saved it!

However, when I reset the settings to Photo, 300 dpi, and jpg, I got the "Unable to save scanned files" message

again! Most of the scanning I do is photos - so unless it works for that, it doesn't do me any good. Any other

suggestions?

You are welcome.

Change the DPI:

Change the resolution retirements. Perhaps 300DPI is too little or too much. That seems to be what is getting in the way, based on your followup reply.

TheLittles - I tried that - no change. I reset the settings again to default, and it worked. I added one change at a time to try to figure out where the problem was. It continued to work with all the changes I made - until I changed WHERE it saved it. Default is to Documents - saving it to Pictures still worked, but when I tried to save it to the Desktop - which is where I had always saved it - I got the "Unable to save scanned files" message again. So it appears that I will just have to save all my scans to either Documents or Pictures instead of the Desktop, and hopefully it will continue to work. Thank you SO much for your help! It hadn't occurred to me that the problem was a single setting like that! Your suggestion triggered the process that found the solution. Thanks again!
