I, for one, will not buy another mobile phone from a fast talking sales person without thorough research. My 16 year old grandson has the iPhone 14 Pro with an Otter Box heavy duty cover. He dropped it one time but thought nothing of it as his iPhone XR with Otter Box case was in perfect shape when we got talked into "upgrading for free". There is no "free" with Apple. We are bound into a 3 year contract with 1.5 years to go and the back of his phone is completely shattered with glass dust seeping out from under the sealant and one corner completely exposed. I phoned Otter Box and spent 20 minutes on the phone with a great rep who told me they claim no responsibility for the iPhone 14 models with Corning Wear Gorilla Glass backs because all you have to do is accidentally bump one corner of the phone on a hard surface and it shatters like an ice cube in hot water. Normally I get insurance on his phones but I did not take him to pick it up and the person that did refused the insurance even though I pay for his phone. So, being an IT professional, having taken hundreds of laptops apart and some phones, I research fixing it myself with authentic parts. But wait, they have engineered his model so that heat must be applied because the glass is welded on, unlike previous models with removable backs. So, bottom line is we still owe (on our free phone) $500.00 to buy out the contract and it would cost 5-6 hundred dollars to fix it. In light of this, Otter Box sent me a heavier case and included the "wallet" for free. They can't cover the cost of the phone but they went above and beyond to try to protect the damaged back so a 16 year old boy could safely hold it in his hand. Shame on you, Apple. Right now I am going to stop by a private, independent Christian owner of a local computer repair shop to see if he can replace it with his tools for less than $600.00. Do your research is all I can say. The iPhone 14 Pro got bad reviews for breakage % and newer models will not be better. Give me the old Nextel with it's heavy duty rubber corners and bright yellow body and walkie talkie feature any day. Too bad the technology wasn't compatible with progress. What a disgrace, Apple.
