14 pro back glass breaks occurring in our company much more often than any other previous device.

Does anyone have a protective case suggestion other than Otterbox defender, to protect the 14 pro iPhone? My group received 4 new iPhone 14 pro’s recently along with Otter Box Defender series protective cases. Three of the four devices back glass have scattered from short falls off individuals hip. One device has broken twice in a matter of weeks. We have been using iPhones and otter box most robust protective cases for 15 years and never experienced failure like this. I have a physics minor, so I understand the laws or gravity well. I have a small hunch the battery could be inducing this premature failure of the back glass but do not have means to prove it yet.

I have a iPhone 14 Pro Max. I have had it only 8 months and went to just change the case and found the back shattered and the back somewhat bulging. I have had several other iPhones for years. 4 series, 5 series, and an 8 plus I had for like 7 years and I have never had such problems. It’s ridiculous that you pay over $1000 dollars for a phone and it doesn’t even last more than 3 months. It’s also ridiculous that I have to pay a $99 deductible to get not a new phone but a refurbished one but yet I’m still paying monthly on a broken new one. Apple should stand behind their flawed products. Apple phones are becoming more expensive but there is no quality. Apple you need to get your act together or some of us will turn to android.

It doesn't matter what case you try. We've had two of our iPhone 14s shatter -- one after a small fall that never should have caused such major damage. It is clearly a major defect of the iPhone 14 since one of the biggest updates on the iPhone 15 is a new back glass design that costs much less to fix. Meanwhile, apple created a terrible design flaw and gets to make $500 per phone to fix it. Awful and ridiculous.

I did find a credit card that has cell phone protection/insurance, so they will cover the $500 repair with just a $50 deductible. definitely worth it if you have the iPhone 14.

I had a $50 Casely case on my phone which has a hard outer shell and flexible inner layer, dropped it on carpet when I stood up and the back shattered. No apple care because I've never needed it in the 10 years I've had iPhones. I paid to replace the back glass and bought an $80 Casetify case with padded corners and one month later, it slipped out of my hand on to laminate flooring, and it's shattered again. I don't want to pay to fix it again, but the shards of glass keep poking me.

YESSSSS!! Exactly!!! But with so many people with broken back glass look at all the extra money that they are making on top of $1000 per phone…..they will never do the right thing & do a recall. I’ll probably be blocked from here again as I was & my comments taken down regarding this issue when it first happened in December. Hadn’t even had the phone 60 days yet & paying on it for next 2 years, you’d think they’d have better customer service than they do on these $1000 phones. And I did not even drop my phone, I was simply taking the case off, I can’t imagine the damage had I dropped it. These phones used to be sturdier than they are now.

Same issue here. I got mine in September 2022, noticed a few months later it was shattered. Had not been dropped. I’ve never had issues with screens or backs cracking, case in perfect shape and same one I’ve used on all the other iPhones. It is constantly warm and several times a month I get that it’ll finish charging when it cools down. Apple charger from the store too. I’ve seen a lot of people complain. I think there’s a defect but apple will never admit to that.

I purchased an iPhone 14 pro in July 2023 and bought an Otterbox case to protect my new iPhone as I have done with every iPhone since they have been in existence. I am very careful with my phones, I protect them with Otterbox cases, I use a coiled hand cord from REI with them so I have a sure grip on them. Occasionally they might slip from a grip or a stack, but maybe from 3 feet as I am only 5'3''. Have never shattered or cracked any screen! In FACT I turned in a PERFECT iPhone X to get credits for the iPhone 14 Pro. I take images and wanted the new camera features with the iPhone 14 pro. BIG MISTAKE I think the phone is a FLAWED DESIGN , after charging my phone I received a message from Apple that I had an unauthorized lens on my iPhone 14 pro! I looked at my phone and called AT&T to try to figure out what could that mean?? She had no idea and to call Apple. So I made an appt. with a "genius" I traveled 1 hour, finally got a parking spot, went in and the attendant noticed a small tiny crack not on the lens but on the glass plate attached to the back of the phone surrounding and underneath the 5 lens openings. NO LENS" are cracked! We took off the OTTERBOX and found that the back of the phone's glass is cracked, no pieces are missing but it looks like a glass covering that one would put on the front of the phone to protect the screen that you navigate on. The front of my phone is perfect. 3 weeks later the RED DOT notification on the from of my phone in settings is mysteriously gone. Come On APPLE you know there must me something DEFECTIVE with the Design of the iPhone 14 Pro and maybe all of the 14s! And... APPLE is not making any more iPhone 14s!! The 15 apparently does not have any glass on the back!!! I would love any help or suggestions!

My iPhone 14 Pro Max I just got in 8/2023 & it shattered when I was removing case (very carefully so) & I have also had issues with my phone get really hot, they even found it overheated when they run diagnostic test on it but would not even fix that until my back glass was fixed costing $800 they said. I have insurance on my phone have to pay $250 deductible though & I haven’t had $250 to spend on it and I don’t think that’s right that $1000 phone would shatter so easily. I don’t even want to get the same phone again bc of how much I see this is occurring but I have no choice it’ll have to be same phone. I’ve never had so many issues with my iPhones in past & never even cracked my screen or back in over 10years of owning iPhones. There’s most definitely a defect in this model iPhone & I wish Apple would finally address this

This is ridiculous. I’m having to pay $200+ dollars to replace the back/get a whole new phone. This is the second time I’ve had to replace it, both times they fell from the bed( couldn’t be more than three ft off the ground) and had a case on it. They’re making their phones less and less sturdy. I had the iPhone X for 4 or more years and only broke when it fell off the second floor onto tile. They need to recall their material for this phone or provide a free replacement for all customers.

I, for one, will not buy another mobile phone from a fast talking sales person without thorough research. My 16 year old grandson has the iPhone 14 Pro with an Otter Box heavy duty cover. He dropped it one time but thought nothing of it as his iPhone XR with Otter Box case was in perfect shape when we got talked into "upgrading for free". There is no "free" with Apple. We are bound into a 3 year contract with 1.5 years to go and the back of his phone is completely shattered with glass dust seeping out from under the sealant and one corner completely exposed. I phoned Otter Box and spent 20 minutes on the phone with a great rep who told me they claim no responsibility for the iPhone 14 models with Corning Wear Gorilla Glass backs because all you have to do is accidentally bump one corner of the phone on a hard surface and it shatters like an ice cube in hot water. Normally I get insurance on his phones but I did not take him to pick it up and the person that did refused the insurance even though I pay for his phone. So, being an IT professional, having taken hundreds of laptops apart and some phones, I research fixing it myself with authentic parts. But wait, they have engineered his model so that heat must be applied because the glass is welded on, unlike previous models with removable backs. So, bottom line is we still owe (on our free phone) $500.00 to buy out the contract and it would cost 5-6 hundred dollars to fix it. In light of this, Otter Box sent me a heavier case and included the "wallet" for free. They can't cover the cost of the phone but they went above and beyond to try to protect the damaged back so a 16 year old boy could safely hold it in his hand. Shame on you, Apple. Right now I am going to stop by a private, independent Christian owner of a local computer repair shop to see if he can replace it with his tools for less than $600.00. Do your research is all I can say. The iPhone 14 Pro got bad reviews for breakage % and newer models will not be better. Give me the old Nextel with it's heavy duty rubber corners and bright yellow body and walkie talkie feature any day. Too bad the technology wasn't compatible with progress. What a disgrace, Apple.
