Hi,
When I'm trying to call someone, my iPhone redirect me to the Instagram app instead of starting the call.
The issue isn't occuring for every contact in my phone, but it happens with some contacts.
There is no way to call them and in every single try it keeps redirect me to Instagram.
I have the latest iOS 16.4.1 (a) software. any solution for this issue?

Hi guys, the solution is very simple.
The phone gives you a choice to choose which number will you dial when you press phone call button in contacts. It should always be mobile or home, but it is not. But actually this is ok because you can choose if there are more phone numbers in contact.
The contact number (person behind this number) has also a lot of apps that he uses for calling and your iphone recognize them(incuding other apps)… probably.
so…
solution..
go to contacts, choose your contact person… press and hold the phone call button… a new window will appear and than coose the “mobile” number.
it works for me fine, the instagram app doesnt open anymore.

Instead of calling directly, it is redirecting to Insta, WA business, MS Teams or any other messaging apps I've installed.
I had to uninstall all apps and restart my iPhone. Performing this once is Ok....iiissh but I hope this doesn't become a routine.

and this call kit bug is actually true, it happens occasionally.
but I find that restarting my device actually fixes the issue
Here's the fix for every version.
Do it exactly like this.
Update your phone all the way.
If updated already or after updating, restart two times.
Delete All These Apps at one time if you have them.
Restart two times after.
(Optional)
Syn all your contacts now if you want.

Install All The Apps you deleted ONE BY ONE.

Check what have you stored against the Contact detail

I made a regular call from the deafult iPhone caller to contacts that have only the phone number in details.
Anyways, I cleaned the cache from my iPhone and it stopped redirect me to Instagram.
I have no idea why it happened.
First try clearing the cache in your iPhone as some users have mentioned this works for them. You can do this right in the Safari app - just clear all your browsing history and then try again with whatever you were doing. Are you able to unlock your hotel room and/or make phone calls now?
If that doesn’t work, try deleting the FB Messenger app entirely. You can always download it again later, but see if it works once that app is gone. Then when you redownload it there’s a possibility that the bug was removed with the deletion of the app and won’t come back, as other users mentioned.
I hope this helps because I have yet to hear of a one-size-fits-all fix for this, even for people I know in person (outside of this discussion) and I really want to find out how this can be resolved.
I always have this bug on my iPhone 13 mini, it opens random social apps, when I delete Instagram, it will open VK, when I delete VK, it will open WhatsApp, it is basically a iOS call kit issue that is happening at random times specifically calling numbers in the recents tab
My iPhone redirects me to Instagram when making a phone call. The person I am call is not saved as a contact nor do I have them as a Instagram friend.
today I was using the Hilton app to unlock my room using my phone and when tap the screen to unlock my room it redirected me to Facebook messager.
Applied that action and it fixed opening up one app but then opened Teams. This is quite a major bug for Apple to fix. If you tap the actual number the call works, you cannot use Call icon. How did that pass testing !
If I initiate voice call for a contact in my contact list it would either initiate Instagram or WhatsApp or Facebook messenger. Few observations: One, It does not happen for all the contacts. Two, if I initiate a voice call by pressing the icon with the receiver sign that is there in contact details only then it diverts to WA, Insta or FB Messanger. Three, if I press the phone number then it places the voice properly. It has stated happening to me 3-4 days back only…is there any resolution to it?
This does not appear to apply to only contacts, this is applying to almost all calls made in the recent tab, and possibly applies to contact as well, at first, I thought it was a voiceover focus issue, but it’s apparently not, usually, when you press the call button after you hit the I icon, it will give you options for apps to use such as phone, WhatsApp, etc., but on a non-normal behavior state, it will open random social apps for no particular reason.
perhaps the system thinks that you are trying to do some thing on these apps, or use them to make calls instead of cellular calls, which is not normal behavior.
I agree that Apple needs to fix this type of problem, I don’t know how many users are encountering this, but randomly opening social apps is not the way to call people.
has anyone here ever encountered this bug when using the phone keypad?
It’s not a viable solution to have us delete our social media apps. Apple needs to fix this. Every time I’m trying to FaceTime with a friend or family member, I have to go to WhatsApp. When I deleted WhatsApp, then it made me go to Instagram. I am not going to delete all of my social media.
the same thing happens to my brand new iphone 14 pro max too, i tried to restart the phone but still same result, i think its some kind of software update bug.. hope apple can resolve this matter.
Same issue happens to my iPhone 12 and 13 after update to 16.4.1 (a). Try to find the group who have the same issue.
