AirPods connect to iPad it tells me a gmail is following me

I connected my AirPods I received as a gift to my iPad and it said someone at a gmail account can see my location. It was a sealed box how could the person that got them for me be tracking me

We understand the concern over the alert. You can see more info about what to do if you see such an alert here:


If this only popped up right after connecting the AirPods it is possible they were signed into a previous Apple ID and may need to be reset. You can see the steps to reset a pair of AirPods here:


One other thing, you didn't mention if you received a notification as shown on the page we shared, or if you received a message or email. The reason we're mentioning this, is because the notification examples, do not include mentioning an email address.
