Apple Watch battery drain

the battery on my apple watch (series 8), purchased in late march, suddenly drains much quicker. i've only had it for a little over a month and i didn't change any settings so this is quite baffling to me.

any idea what is going on?

thanks!

Make sure to turn off background app refresh and  check walkie talkie is not accidentally turned on.

Check there is no workout running (yellow circle at top if screen.)

Make sure you have no VPN or VPN based ad-blocker on the iphone. Uninstall it then remove any profiles (iPhone Settings, General VPN & Device Management)

Force restart your watch i.e. press and hold both the side button and Digital Crown for at least 10 seconds, then release both buttons when you see the Apple logo.

Then while the Watch is restarting Force Restart the paired iphone   Force restart iPhone – Apple Support (UK)

Try it for a couple of days especially if you sync photos to your Watch.

If the battery still drains  then Unpair the watch and then pair it again.

Unpair and erase your Apple Watch – Apple Support (UK)

Set up your Apple Watch – Apple Support (UK)

This started with the watchOS update to 10.0 and it has not been fixed so far (as of 10.2).

I have heard this specifically and seen it mentioned on one of the larger Apple related web/media sites (not an Apple site).

When I first bought my Series8 watch in March I was getting ready almost 48hours of use out of it, now (12/30) I am lucky to get half of that if I don't use too many apps.

I've even gone in and adjusted settings, turned off background updates for apps that I can live with them only updating when I use them.

I've looked at the battery health and Im still at 93%, and looked at the battery drainage by app to see how I might be able to tweak settimhsvor delete battery hogs to no avail.

My personal opinion is that Apple, starting with WatchOS 10 has basically overstuffed and under optimized Sustem Services and the underlying WatchOS.

I Sam Marcos fortunate that using a 20W USB C charging block my watch can fully recharge in an hour or two

I’ve recently had this issue and I done two things. 1) a factory reset 2) couldn’t find the clock face I had prior to factory reset so had to change to another. My theory is… with the latest update the face I had set as my default is no longer an option so suspect the watch and iPhone were constantly trying to find the face hence the battery depleting so quickly and likely why only some users having this battery 🪫 issue. Anyway not sure which one but I’m on 71% after 9hrs. Good luck anyone currently having issues and hope this fix works for you too.

My watch has been doing this since November. I have automatic updates on, but the newest update was not downloaded. The update wouldn’t work, so I had to power off my watch and turn it back on then install the update. Ever since the update my watch battery lasts all day again, actually I can wear it all day and it not even be half dead by the time I put it on the charger for the night. Hope this works for some of you. I know how frustrating this has been.

Transparency: The latest software update has fixed this issue for me.

I hope yours, too. After 2 months of disappointment, it is good to have my Apple Watch back.

Apple, please up your FAT, UAT processes and etc. If your product was in a production / operations environment you would not survive with the amount of bugs you have been introducing in recent years.

well, i mentioned that I was having the same issues with my series 8 iwatch as well, but now I think it has improved after I charged my watch with a different Original adapter, of course, i left it on the magnetic charger and it lasted up to a day or more i think, so you should try changing ur adapter and stoping plugging the charger to ur laptop instead. I hope this works because i know how frustrating it is, Nevertheless, Apple, should drop a statement at least or we will think they are not taking us seriously as loyal customers.
