iOS 16.4.1(a) and Homekit - Philips hue not responding

Hello everyone,

I am currently having an issue with iOS 16.4.1(a) and Homekit update.

Indeed, all of my Philipps Hue lights appear as "unresponsive".

Of course Siri is also affected.

The workarounds I have found is to use Alexa or the Philipps Hue app.

  • Do you encounter this behavior?
  • Do you have any advice?

Hi Guillaume and community,

I shared your frustration - I lost homekit+hue functionality in two locations - but a full reset solved it.

I did a full reset of the bridges. It took me 45 minutes to recreate everything in my home (17 bulbs plus switches and smart plugs). The biggest nuisance was running up and down two flights of stairs to identify the lights since the lights that were found were spread across five rooms (it took me less than 15 minutes in my appartment abroad (9 bulbs) since everything was in adjacent rooms).

@philipshue_devsupport please make this a one-time problem. A hard reset is not something any of us wants to do again.

@Chris_1923 ugggghhhhhhh this is what I was dreading most. I've got around 60 bulbs and really don't want to go through this entire process again.

@philipshue_devsupport is there an upcoming fix for this, or should I go ahead and plan on wasting a chunk of my day with a reset and reconfigure of all my lights, rooms, and automations?

For reference, my Hue bulbs are the only device in the Apple Home app that are showing "No Response", and all of them are affected. I've got Arlo cameras, Sensi thermostats, Kasa plugs and switches, Apple TVs and more in my Homekit configuration, and none of them are experiencing the same issue that my Hue lights are. Like others have mentioned, the Hue lights work fine in the Hue app, just not in the Apple Home app.

What's odd is that I still seem to be able to control them from the Home app. If I tap on them twice, they will display as being on. However, leaving and coming back to the app, they all default back to displaying "No Response" which is problematic because I have no clue which lights are on/off through the Home app.

@NinjaBurg3r I have the exact same question. I don't really want to reset and redo everything if I'm not 100% it will work.

@NinjaBurg3r does not want/can't provide an answer. I'm discussing with them on their Twitter support account, and they only answer "under investigation". Seems like it is not widespread (many customers do not have the issue), and it makes a firmware update less likely in the short term.

Super disappointed with Hue because I do accept a higher price for a supposedly better reliability and service.

Yesterday 26 may my 2 bridges had a software update, now again one of my 2 bridges does have a connection problem with HomeKit, only this time the problem is also within the hue app. My lights are out off reach in the hue app, I can’t switch them on or off, but as a group I can! Looks like a zigbee status feedback problem from light to bridge. Also some of the lights changed name.

It looked like it was the same problem at first sight , but this time it was also in the hue app! So I didn’t have to disconnect from HomeKit and I didn’t perform the hard reset this time! After a while (hours) my light/bulbs were back online in the hue app and also in HomeKit. After that I changed the zigbee channel to see of this prevents my lights going offline.

My router is a Fritz!box 5490 with 2 fritz!repeater 3000, with latest firmware. Apple OS version is 16.5 on all apple devices in my Home, including Apple TV 4K and HomePods mini. Bridge info is in my post earlier today.

My other bridge does not have a problem and is also model BSB002

I went to the trouble this weekend of doing a factory reset of my Hue Hub, re-adding all lights/rooms, only to be right back at square one with the same issue of all my Hue lights displaying "No Response" in the Home app. I even went one further, as I had a spare, and slightly newer, Hue Hub lying around that I got from a starter pack a while back. I nuked the newly reconfigured hub with a factory reset and removed it from my Hue app. Then, I went through the process of setting up the newer hub with all the lights/rooms again and had the exact same problem - status of all Hue lights as "No Response" in the Home app.

What's odd is that I can still control all the lights through the Home app just fine, and if I click into 3-4 lights, then usually all the lights in the Home app regain their proper status and display correctly (if they are on/off and their current brightness level). In the Hue app and also in the Controller for HomeKit app (a third party app not by Apple) the lights always display the proper status of all my Hue lights. It seems to be just the Home app by Apple is the one behaving in this manner.

Just a little bit of additional info; I am running the latest iOS 16.5 on my iPhone, my HomeKit hub is an Apple TV 4K that is hardwired into a gigabit ethernet connection, which is also running the latest tvOS 16.5, and I have updated to the latest HomeKit architecture.

Another interesting wrinkle I recently noticed, is that the Home app through my Apple Watch Ultra appears to work fine, in that all of the correct statuses of my Hue lights are properly displayed. So it seems the issue of "No Response" for Hue lights is relegated to the iPhone Home app, which is unfortunate as I use the iPhone app far more than the watch version.

Me too. All our devices are at latest updates and same wifi. We moved the Hue bridge from one EERO unit to another. After the Hue bridge booted up, our Home app could see all the Hue appliances as before, but we can no longer control them with Siri, and the devices in the Home app are stuck on "updating". Left it overnight, same thing. After other things, finally removed the bridge from Home app on all devices, and rebooted the Hue bridge with a pin reset. Laboriously reconfigured all the lights and outlets in the Hue app on my phone. Able to control them with the Hue app. So then added the Hue bridge to my iPhone Home app. The Home app can see all the rooms and Hue appliances again, but they are all again stuck on "no response" and "updating". Baffled and frustrated.

As of 04-Jul-2023 suddenly all my Philips Hue lights and devices are connected in Apple Home again, like it was a few months ago. I did not do anything, and according to other threads it was an update from Philips that rolled out globally in early July. I am glad it is working normally now.

I've never been able to connect my Hue bridge/lights to homekit. Whenever I try to do this I consistently get, via the Hue iOS App, "Apple Hone sync error: Unkown error Code: 2002". Or via the Homekit App "Unable to add accessory: The set-up code is incorrect".

The Hue Bridge (BSB002) is now on firmware 1.58.1958159030. I've reset the bridge multiple times, deleted and installed the Hue App all to no avail.

The Hue App works fine. Only Hue lights/switch/PIR are connected. I have it all connected and working to Amazon Alexa with no issues.

Stumped as to what I should try next.
