iOS 16.4.1(a) and Homekit - Philips hue not responding

Hello everyone,

I am currently having an issue with iOS 16.4.1(a) and Homekit update.

Indeed, all of my Philipps Hue lights appear as "unresponsive".

Of course Siri is also affected.

The workarounds I have found is to use Alexa or the Philipps Hue app.

  • Do you encounter this behavior?
  • Do you have any advice?

@robodot

We have some cases where the configuration in the factory did not go well, which can be solved by doing a factory reset. If that does not solve your issue - as you indicated you reset already multiple times - please reach out to contact customer care (preferable via social). Tell them "Can you please create a BSRT, this has been agreed with third line support."

this happened to me I had to unlink my Apple Home from the Hue app. then re-add it, for some reason my hue app is always unable to connect to apple home by pressing the button on Hue bridge. I clicked “I need help” when it failed to connect then it let me scan the code on the bottom of hue bridge instead and it works now. my family still cant use siri to control on their iphone. they’re members of my apple home and it says they can control hue devices but it says “device no response” Im still trying to fix it for them but it works on my ipad and iphone

Brilliant, thanks, this worked to finally get my iPhone's Home app/Siri working with our Hue bridge. To get my wife's phone connected, all I had to do was open Home/Home Settings on my iPhone, remove her from the list of persons who were authorized to use our Home, then re-add her to the list. That sent an invite to her. When we opened her Home app on her iPhone, the invite was waiting in Settings. She accepted and now Siri is working to control our Hue bridge on both our phones. Phew, glad that's finally working again.

I'm having the same problem, but it's intermittent. It started a few weeks ago, I tried all sorts of resets, nothing worked, then a few days later it all started working again.

It's dropped out a couple of times since, and it's down again now. I've checked and everything (iPhone, hue bridge, etc.) is on the latest version of software.

Would be good to get a fix for this, if anyone has found one.

There are 240 "me too" responses. Is there a fix for this yet? I have double checked the network, reset the bridge, unpaired the bridge from homekit, deleted the bridge from my account, tried to pair the bridge from a new devie and a different hue account, and nothing has worked. I have done all of this repeatedly. I have been discussing the problem with support for a month now and they keep asking me to send screen records of the same process I have already done (and sent prior screen records of) to them over and over. It really doesnt have to be this hard. If an update broke the system, roll it back to the previous version that did work! This is ridiculous. I won't be buying anything else from philips hue for my home.

I’ve been biding my time for two months now waiting patiently for firmware updates to rectify this issue. One day, Phillips hue devices just stopped responding in HomeKit. I have done the power cycle thing. I have done the factory reset thing. I have done the whole “update firmware on everything” thing. I have done the whole “delete Hue app and start afresh” thing. The Phillips Hue devices are way too expensive to be causing users this much grief.

Apple removed my current post because it contained info about b e t a software. So iOS 17.0.2 the Phillips hue bridge doesn’t respond to HomeKit.

so much for matter enabled future where nothing works. I have a bulb from Meross and it works fine with HomeKit and no bridge to use. I don’t think Apple is in a rush to solve this issue otherwise they would have done so on iOS 16.4.

still no luck, been waiting for almost 2 months now. it takes a week to get any kind of email response and the facebook messenger people just say "we will let you know when they tell us something" super annoyed and probably going to just switch to meross for everything in the future. meross stuff just works, no hassle. I really want to keep using my remotes for current lights, but anything that has to get replaced is just going to be meross and be done with it, remote or not. so ridiculous.

So I have had some luck thanks to the help team on Twitter.

so hue app worked but Siri and Apple home app wasn’t working.

so to be clear, I did do a hue bridge reset. I had deleted all home settings. Deleted the app and re downloaded.

i also installed a profile that deleted home settings (found via a Reddit but a Apple link - yes was worried about doing that)

after doing all that I wasn’t getting any luck.

Philips told me:

go to Apple home software.

click the button on the hue bridge

then add accessory and then click the bridge hue

enter code etc.

This worked. Previously when I went to Apple home app and add accessory it would already show the hue bridge and I would select it and would get the error message. I wasn’t hitting the button on the hue box.

to be honest. Not sure if all the other stuff I did before and 12hrs overnight helped before I tried this simple approach.

thought I would post as it may help others.

I also have the same problem. I just replace my orbi Wi-Fi 6e mesh router for a TP link Deco Wi-Fi7 mesh router. Everything runs so smooth and fast now but the only problem I am getting is my Hue lights when I added to HomeKit all the lights says nonresponsive. But my Lutron n I also use hoobs pro and they all work fine but the hue is the only one not working any help please

I had the same problem occur with my Hue devices around a month ago. I spent hours with Hue support troubleshooting and following their list of troubleshooting steps until they give up also. They confirmed that it is a relatively widespread issue.

I had a sense that the problem was related to Bonjour/Zeroconfig between the Hue Bridge, my Home hubs and my router. This was also indicated because I could see that my hue devices would disconnect from my network/hub frequently. This had never happened in my prior 5-6 years with Hue devices.

Another user on a Reddit thread found a solution by replacing their Xfinity router (XB6) with a new Wifi6 router. So, I replaced mine (XB7) with an old Airport Basestation I had lying around and my problems were solved immediately. I then replaced my Xfinity router with a new one (XB8) and I have had a stable connection for over 24 hours now.

The router doesn't need to be "new" it just has to handle Bonjour/zeroconfig well. The Apple Airport Basetation does an excellent job. In the Reddit threads I was following many reported that they were using Xfinity routers and had to replace theirs for Hue to work properly again.
