iOS 16.4.1(a) and Homekit - Philips hue not responding

Hello everyone,

I am currently having an issue with iOS 16.4.1(a) and Homekit update.

Indeed, all of my Philipps Hue lights appear as "unresponsive".

Of course Siri is also affected.

The workarounds I have found is to use Alexa or the Philipps Hue app.

  • Do you encounter this behavior?
  • Do you have any advice?

Hello @philipshue_devsupport

Here action taken:

  • Upgrading to the latest iOs version. (16.5)
  • Still using the latest version of Philipps Hue App: 4.42.0 (13244)

Test 1:

  • Trying to sync with the bridge: Failed

  • Click on "I need Help" and reset my link with Homekit:

  • After a warning, the application directs me to a new connection with a voice assistant
  • I've select Homekit, app find my old configuration, I select it then
  • App asking for for the QRCode but after 1 hour without success, I've decided to quit the app

Test 2:

  • Disconnect my Apple TV 4K from the network (in case of it will be the root cause of this issue).
  • Doing the same actions above.
  • Test 2 result: Failed

Test 3:

  • Apple TV: Down
  • Restart the bridge
  • Doing the above action
  • Test 3: Failed

Solution:

  • Reset the bridge with physical button (on back)
  • Wait for 3 Blue Leds being fixed.
  • Run the Philipps App Hue
  • Restart the Application
  • The App back from initial launch
  • Forced to redo 100% of the configuration ... grrrrrrr
  • Bridge detected.
  • Lights added + Accessories

Hi @philipshue_devsupport

I tried deleting the HomeKit link from the Hue app, deleting the link as well from Apple Home App, rebooting my Apple devices in the house, then reconnecting, pressing "I need help", scanning the QR code but an error pops up in the Hue App as described by @LEFBE

I do strongly believe this is due to the bridge firmware update 1.57.1957200040

I do not want to do a full reset of the bridge as I have many bulbs, switches, buttons throughout the house.

How can a severe bug last so long? I trusted Hue for my house, I feel let down and need to switch to another brand now.

@Chris_1923 ugggghhhhhhh this is what I was dreading most. I've got around 60 bulbs and really don't want to go through this entire process again.

@philipshue_devsupport is there an upcoming fix for this, or should I go ahead and plan on wasting a chunk of my day with a reset and reconfigure of all my lights, rooms, and automations?

For reference, my Hue bulbs are the only device in the Apple Home app that are showing "No Response", and all of them are affected. I've got Arlo cameras, Sensi thermostats, Kasa plugs and switches, Apple TVs and more in my Homekit configuration, and none of them are experiencing the same issue that my Hue lights are. Like others have mentioned, the Hue lights work fine in the Hue app, just not in the Apple Home app.

What's odd is that I still seem to be able to control them from the Home app. If I tap on them twice, they will display as being on. However, leaving and coming back to the app, they all default back to displaying "No Response" which is problematic because I have no clue which lights are on/off through the Home app.

Yesterday 26 may my 2 bridges had a software update, now again one of my 2 bridges does have a connection problem with HomeKit, only this time the problem is also within the hue app. My lights are out off reach in the hue app, I can’t switch them on or off, but as a group I can! Looks like a zigbee status feedback problem from light to bridge. Also some of the lights changed name.

I’ve been biding my time for two months now waiting patiently for firmware updates to rectify this issue. One day, Phillips hue devices just stopped responding in HomeKit. I have done the power cycle thing. I have done the factory reset thing. I have done the whole “update firmware on everything” thing. I have done the whole “delete Hue app and start afresh” thing. The Phillips Hue devices are way too expensive to be causing users this much grief.

Hello turingtest2

Thanks for this suggestion.

Unfortunately, this proposal doesn't seem to work on my end.

What I find strange is that all the lights stopped working after installing patch A of version 16.4.1. Last week, in version 16.4.1, everything worked perfectly.

Of course, I restarted all the equipment without success, however, everything works perfectly with the Alexa speaker or the official Philipps application.

Same here - happened same time at home and in apartment abroad - all homepod mini’s and homekit stopped connecting to hue bridge - all devices listed as updating / not responding.

At home I can at least use the hue app. Since hue bridge can only connect to one phone, I have no solution for the apartment - I can only use the manual switches. (Any workarounds for that ?)

I've tried that multiple times and it didn't help at all. I did:

turn off and on all devices using home including homepod mini,

Clear the data on the Bridge using Hue app

Unlinked from Apple Home

Readded Bridge by scanning the QR code on the back.

As a result I was constanly getting a Hue app pop-up "Apple Home sync error. Pairing with Hue Bridge failed. If the problem persists, please check for software updates for the Hue Bridge." and "Apple Home sync error. Apple Home was unable to complete this request due to a unknown error."

And then when still unlinked and invisible in Home app, when i tried to add Bridge again there I've got Home app error message saying "Unable to Add Accessory. Accessory is out of compliance." .

@NinjaBurg3r I have the exact same question. I don't really want to reset and redo everything if I'm not 100% it will work.

@NinjaBurg3r does not want/can't provide an answer. I'm discussing with them on their Twitter support account, and they only answer "under investigation". Seems like it is not widespread (many customers do not have the issue), and it makes a firmware update less likely in the short term.

Super disappointed with Hue because I do accept a higher price for a supposedly better reliability and service.

@Kennethbnl Happy to hear that your issue is at least resolved for now.

@Chris_1923 That sounds very concerning. After 5 days you see the exact same behavior as at first? Which from what I've been reading here is: you get into the pairing flow again, that fails, after which you have the option to unlink HomeKit. Then going through the pairing flow again, the Bridge tries to make a connection but you see an error in the background that you have a sync problem. Can you confirm? As mentioned in my previous post you would help us greatly by sending an email to philipshuedev@signify.com with below information. If you agree we will then take a look at the back end data of your Bridge.
