Unstable network - iPhone 11 (maxis)

Hi. recently my iPhone 11 got internet connection problem. the internet always got Egde and sometime shown 4G but no internet connection. My telco in maxis. Whenever i contacted customer service Maxis, they said they received so many reports regarding on the same problem which is from iPhone 11 users. So, this issue obviously is related to software compatibility, not the telco. Some said iPhone 11 does not support 5G.

Anyone got the same problem?

I have had the same issue for 2 months. Maxis does not have a solution for the problem.

I tested with Celcom sim on the same phone and it works fine.

After many calls with Maxis, the only solution to this issue is to switch from Maxis to Celcom.

I got this issue yesterday 2nd July 2023. Initially I thought its maxis faulty or what not. But i didnt had time to call yesterday. So i called today on 3july2023. I called maxis and explain. Apparently maxis says its apple faulty because all Maxis user with Iphone 11 is having this issue *After Updating the lates IOS*.

So maxis told me to contact apple support at 1800806419. But apple technical office is close on weekend :’). So for me luckily i still kept my old phone, so I transferred my “Sim Card” to my old phone and use it as a walking wifi (Hotspot) to my iphone, while waiting to settle this issue with apple.

Hi all, I’ve been facing the same issue too since June 2023. My iPhone 11 on Maxis was fine until then. Out of the blue it couldn’t connect to anything better than EDGE, my phone would run hot and my battery would KO real quick; even constantly got the phone too hot warning. So my phone battery health at the time was 70% ~ 71%-ish, I’ve used the phone for about 3 and a half years at the time and the battery was due for a change.

So anyway, I got the battery changed at Machines. I’d opt for an authorised repair shop. Now with a fresh battery, my iPhone 11 seems to be okay. I hope this helps because I wasted money buying a new phone and those few months without proper internet was just painful for both my work and personal life.

Hello everyone, i had the same problem. After read all the replies, try most of the things you guys share, nothing change. Let me save your time. I can conclude that the cause is not from the battery, carrier or software. I find out that this is common issue for iphone11. What I can recall, i start to experience this issue after my phone got the temperature warning & the rest is history...

The actual problem is our 'Network IC' on the motherboard. Cost to repair this around rm450-700. Goodluck

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing internet connection issues with your iPhone 11 on the Maxis network. It's essential to determine the cause of the problem to find a solution. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Check for Software Updates: Ensure that your iPhone is running the latest iOS version. Sometimes, software updates can address network-related issues.

2. Reset Network Settings: Go to "Settings" > "General" > "Reset" > "Reset Network Settings." This will reset your network settings, including Wi-Fi passwords and cellular settings. Note that you'll need to re-enter Wi-Fi passwords after doing this.

3. Toggle Airplane Mode: Turn on Airplane Mode for a few seconds, then turn it off. This can refresh your device's connection to the cellular network.

4. Check SIM Card: Ensure that the SIM card is properly inserted and not damaged. You can try removing and reinserting it.

5. Contact Maxis Support: If the issue persists, get in touch with Maxis customer support again. Request them to check the status of your account and ensure there are no network-related problems in your area.

Regarding the compatibility of iPhone 11 with 5G, it's essential to note that iPhone 11 models do not support 5G. They are equipped with 4G LTE capabilities. However, this should not affect your ability to connect to 4G or have stable internet access.

If the problem persists after trying the troubleshooting steps above, it's advisable to reach out to Apple support. They can assist you in diagnosing the issue further and providing potential solutions or repairs if necessary.

I’m facing the same problem now, the 4G sign on the top right of phone screen show full bar, but cannot use any online function

I’m Apple user for many many years, and this iPhone 11 I hav been using around 3yrs, wondering how come it happen now?

Visited Aeon Cheras Selatan Machines to tell the technician my issue, he tell me to contact apple support, and i had a conversation with Apple senior advisor after a chatting advisor, he suggested me to do some more tests, these are what I tested

My SIM card to iPhone XR, 4G works well

My SIM card to Vivo phone, it works well

My SIM card to Huawei tablet, it works well

Other’s Maxis SIM card to my iPhone 11, 4G unstable again, and my phone become super hot and shows temperature too high after like 10mins, so I have to switch off the mobile data to cool down my phone… (searching signal will run battery usage much more than WiFi)

Well.. the last thing I havnt try is down grade my iOS… I’ll try it if the Apple advisor can’t find the reason..

The senior advisor promised my he will call back to me this afternoon.. let’s see…

I went to service centre today and they checked the phone and they concluded that cellular hardware issue was detected during the test.

as my phone is not within warranty to change the board it will cost me RM2k+

they also said many iPhone 11 users have the same issue and those within warranty can get it replaced.

I thought Apple is reliable. I’m so upset and disappointed now.

Thank you for your suggestions dina2111.

I hv same issue for months now n Ive done lotss of troubleshooting. You are right, the (1) really works but Don’t try (2), I change from maxis to digi same problem remain.

Kaiyun0923 report fr switch is correct. Main Logic Board issue which is Hardware Problem ( not network, not software but it’s ip11 hardware!!!). The workshop said repair cost abt rm350 n more.

Iwill stick with (1) for now and see how it goes. Rdgs, Ip11sucks

Hi. I had the same problem. It happened just recently (a month ago). Contacted Maxis and was told a lot of iPhone 11 users are having this issue, and apparently it's phone issue, not telco. Went to Machine service centre and had my phone diagnosed, and Cellular failed the test. They said the same thing about iPhone 11, but mostly happened to Maxis. Nothing much they can do if you're out of warranty period (been using the phone for 3years+). They quoted rm2k+ to repair which is ridiculous. I personally believe it has to do with the new updates, coz it was ok before. Quite frustrated with Apple right now. Seems like they're pushing us to change to a new phone.

A quick update on everything I have tried and 2 cents a.k.a wack suggestions:

Info:

iPhone 11 (2 Yrs)

iOS 17.1.1 (updated 3 days ago)

issue since roughly a week plus

issue usually is more persistent in 3 out of 4 areas I've been too (cities and states)

88% Battery health (since someone has theorised it might be due to a weak battery performance)

What I have tried:

  1. Changed my iPhone Maxis sim to my bf's Android phone and his Android Maxis to mine. Conclusion. same issue within the hour we had lunch. E/4G limbo.
  2. Changed my iPhone Maxis sim to my Yoodo sim which I use with another Android phone as my hotspot. Conclusion, worked great. Immediately connected to 4G after detecting the sim, while my bf's/my Maxis took some time.
  3. Apple Support (amazing btw), ran a couple of diagnostic testing and came to the following conclusion, it really isn't a HW issue for me. Remember, majority of the area I have been in the week+ were more problematic than others.

Suggestion:

  1. The wack one. If it starts getting on that limbo. Reset network and don't get on wifi again. Probably at times will be on 4G but still slow? Take a breather and wait.
  2. Sane one. Change your carrier, don't bother getting 5G because iP11 is not equipped for that and by all means do not fall into such (most plausible) marketing schemes. I do suggest keeping your number.
  3. If like me, you can't do Suggestion (2) immediately because of the ****** contract. Wait out the wave and go with (1) til you can.
  4. Permanently be on wifi. sucks but..well, it is an option especially if you have another phone.
  5. Go capitalism style and upgrade your phone, would suggest iPhone 14 Pro Max at most. Skip out 15.

If you're still here, thanks. If it doesn't work out, you shall be in my prayers.

faries744 wrote: "Yes original battery. Now down to 80% I think.
But does that have anything to do with cellular 4g problem?"

Yes, that's why I asked. 80% is Apple's recommended level for having the battery replaced. The weak, aging battery is not providing sufficient power to the iPhone's antenna to connect with cell tower signals. The long process of applying an iOS update to an old iPhone with a weak battery can be the proverbial "straw that broke the camel's back." So have the depleted battery replaced and your cellular connectivity will likely return:

ayed ~ With an older model such as the iPhone 11, an often overlooked cause of connection problems can be a weak, aging battery. (The battery supplying insufficient power to the antenna.)

Does your iPhone 11 still have its original battery?

I have called apple on 5June. Spoke to Mr.Andrew (Apple Support) We spoke for like 30mins.

Apple Support ask to connect to my phone via icould (Remotely). And they will direct via phone call to view the things they need on iphone settings. This is To know about Sim Restrictions, imei & Serial Number (They will Screenshot)

After the call. They will ask a “Video Screen Recording” for a proof the connection issue, they will send a link to upload this video via Email that you provided, this is for them to send to Apple Engineers. So for my “Video Recording” i record 1)Proof that i have valid internet data 2) Proof that connection shows E/4G but cant connect to youtube/fb etc.

i’ve send my “Video Screen recording” Today 7 June 2023. Will update once they contact me back.
