Why has this happened? How can we improve this system?

Ok, let me start off by Saying that I am a GeekSquad Agent, and a Certified Apple Pro to boot, and for the life of me I cannot understand why Apple Music has jerked me around so much:

I had a free trial of Apple Music that I got when I purchased my new iPhone 14pro, which just recently expired. I did not renew the Subscription, nor did I even use the service, I may have added 2 sounds to just one particular playlist, but that’s the extent I used Apple Music.

When Apple Music expired, it warned me my Apple Music Playlists would be deleted, to which I thought “Fine, the playlists I have aren’t from Apple Music, so they shouldn’t be touched.” To clarify; all my playlists were compiled on ITunes on my PC at home and Synced to my Devices using cables and my Apple ID Account. I had been using these same Playlists and Saving music from my Computer to my device for years, backing them up and Syncing them the same way. Yet, the day after my free trial ended, to my horror, Apple Music had deleted EVERY PLAYLIST I HAD EVER MADE from my Phone and Ipad as well as deleting several specific Albums, all of which were CDs Originally I imported to iTunes, from my devices.

Thankfully, I haven’t lost any of my music, everything was backed up to my iTunes on my PC, and even then, everything has been backed up elsewhere, as an extreme redundancy. This has not been the first time iTunes/AppleMusic has decided I was unworthy of my Playlists. My issue is really being; why did the free trial have any ability to manipulate or delete pre established playlists, with music that didn’t originate from Apple Music itself? I can understand it removing freely downloaded/saved music that was collected while having the Subscription, but removing every playlist is extreme and unnecessary.

This issue is more or less a setback for me, but what about the people who don’t have redundancies? Or Years of Music and Playlists created and they want to try Apple Music? As someone who works in I.T. I can only imagine the nightmare of recompiling years of music into playlists.

I am bringing this matter up, not because I’m upset, I am disappointed mind you, but because I think this issue could have been avoided entirely. If cancelling the Apple Music Subscription had simply removed any music acquired for free under the Subscription from my playlists, but not deleted those playlists, then everything would have been fine. Again, this is sadly not the first time my music has either disappeared or been deleted randomly by iTunes/Apple Music.

I’m throwing this out there, not really expecting an answer or anything, but I hope this points out a flaw that can be corrected. Thanks.

Hi WinterWarden11

welcome to the Apple (user-to-user) Community.

Thank you for posting your questions and info. to the Community.

As we are all Apple users, like yourself, we can not speak for Apple, and whatever Apple decides to do, likely no-one here has explanations as to precisely why. However we'd like to sympathise, and offer a little help:

Re: How can we improve this system?

We are free to subscribe to Apple Music, use it for some things without a subscription, and to use other apps, (other than Apple's freely available software) to help store and listen to Music. (Eg: on Mac, music can often be stored in a folder of our choosing, and opened with QuickTime Player. If we wish, other (non-Apple) apps that can work with music / playlists may be installed .)

Apple has provided avenues for feedback to reach those who work behind-the-scenes at Apple. They will likely not reply, yet all feedback is carefully logged. If others are also sending feedback on an issue, we may see changes in future updates.
