The pngs in my files app keep their transparency but for whatever reason when I download a transparent png to Photos it loses then transparency and turns the background
This is really inconvenient, help?

The thing is that this shouldn't be happening - optimized storage or not. Yes, one solution is to save PNG's to Files BUT there are plenty of apps on the iPhone that will only let you choose images from Photos (instagram etc). This has to be a bug that hasn't been addressed.
I tested a white text on transparent from my Photos and used it when working in Adobe Express on iPhone and the transparency game through - but when creating a story on Instagram, the same image was added as a white box.
My last point is this: we should be able to see what the PNG is of if we use a white shape or text. This just has to be a bug - there are so many people who do creative work on their iPhones and this just needs fixing!!!
When you upload the png file to Discord or other uses are you uploading the export unmodified original file? If you don't and export and upload the png version (where you can select between jpeg, tiff or png) that png will not have a transparent background.
I really need this fixed. I think part of the issue is that I tried uploading the .png directly to iCloud Photos via my laptop, and it says 'Only files in JPEG format can be uploaded.
I'm sorry, but why does Apple Photos allow you to make cutouts from photos with transparent backgrounds in the first place? 🤷♀️
Hi! Any photos with transparent backgrounds will appear in the photos app as a white or black background. When it is used in other apps it should appear as transparent or the color that the app changes it to. Are you having problems in apps where they don’t seem to have transparent backgrounds after using the photos app to import them? Screen recordings would be excellent.
Not just discord. Photoshop Mix and other apps too
however, weirdly enough, it is shown as white background in my photos app and not transparent, but when I put the photo in text messages it is transparent
its just that lots of apps aren’t allowing transparent images due to the white background that is forcibly placed on my transparent PNGs on my photos app. PNGs I’ve saved from safari typically do keep their transparency in my photos app though. It’s just that transferring the png from files, text messages, and discord makes it lose transparency (except for when I upload the image to my text messages. It keeps the transparency somehow)
I’m having the same issue. I downloaded an image with transparency and after importing it in notability it has a white background. But if I copy directly from the browser the image has the transparency. This should be addressed as I don’t want to search and paste a recurrent image every time
”download and keep originals” is chosen already before I made this post and that hasn’t worked
Is this just happening with Discord? I will get emails when you reply, so don’t worry about me not seeing it.
It doesn’t give any options like that, it just goes straight to my photo library and has me upload the photo that way. Doesn’t let me choose between png Jpeg or tiff
Try to save the unmodified original to Files, then upload from Files to the webpage you want.
Are you referring to Photos on your iPad? If so I missed that an was referring to Photos on a Mac.
