The pngs in my files app keep their transparency but for whatever reason when I download a transparent png to Photos it loses then transparency and turns the background
This is really inconvenient, help?

Where are you downloading from? Have you tried downloading to the Desktop, checking them with Preview to see if the transparency is there before importing into Photos?
The Photos library does not display transparent pngs and gifs as transparent. It gives them a white background in my Library.
Export the png file as a Unmodified Original and test see if they are have transparent background or not.
”download and keep originals” is chosen already before I made this post and that hasn’t worked

It doesn’t give any options like that, it just goes straight to my photo library and has me upload the photo that way. Doesn’t let me choose between png Jpeg or tiff
If there is some way for pngs that are saved in my Photos to retain their transparency instead of forcing a white background onto it that would be nice
This is happening to me when I Airdrop a PNG with transparency to my iPad Pro. It's a new behaviour because I have several images with transparency from before which are fine.
I really need this fixed. I think part of the issue is that I tried uploading the .png directly to iCloud Photos via my laptop, and it says 'Only files in JPEG format can be uploaded.
I still deal with this problem. Is anyone going to solve it?
I'm sorry, but why does Apple Photos allow you to make cutouts from photos with transparent backgrounds in the first place? 🤷♀️
Are you referring to Photos on your iPad? If so I missed that an was referring to Photos on a Mac.
Photos is not designed to show transparent backgrounds. It shows them white. However, if you export the original out of the library to the Desktop and open it with Preview you'll see that the background is still transparent.
