I found a solution for this.

  • Delete your Yahoo! account from Internet Accounts.

  • Go to your Yahoo! account in your browser.

  • Click on your account on the top right.

  • Click Security.

  • Click Generate and manage app passwords.

  • Enter "Mail" when prompted for an App.

  • Copy the password Yahoo creates.

  • On your Mac, go to System Preferences > Internet Accounts.

  • Instead of clicking Yahoo!, click Add Other Account.

  • Click @ Mail account.

  • Enter your Yahoo! email address and paste the app password you just generated on the Yahoo! website.

This worked for me and I now have my Yahoo! emails actively coming into the Mail app on my Mac.

My Yahoo account worked just fine on my iMac with Catalina, until today. Now no matter how many times I enter my password it won't log on in Apple mail. It works on the Yahoo page, on my MBA, which runs Ventura, and all my mobile devices. I suspect that Catalina is now considered too old an OS for Yahoo!

I tried generation a password as suggested for 3rd party apps, and that didn't work. If anyone has a solution I would love to hear it. This is annoying to say the least.

Thanks... upgraded to Ventura this evening and still no luck. Mac Mail was working fine until last week when a Rogers administrator asked me to change my Yahoo password in order to add a new email address to my account. Wish I had have known that by changing the password I would only be able to use Yahoo mail instead of my Mac Mail, which is lacking. The other email address on the account is still working fine with Mac Mail access because that Yahoo password was not changed. Grrrrrr....

Sign in to your Yahoo Account Security page.

Click Generate app password or Generate and manage app passwords.

Enter your app's name in the text field. "mail"

Click Generate password.

Copy password

Go to Mail app

Add new mail account

Put your ...@yahoo.com

Paste the generated code from yahoo security and you're done

I disabled the Avast antivirus and now I can create an app password from Yahoo Account Security page.

But unfortunately even with this new generated password mac mail both from macbook and ipad could not sign in to my Yahoo account. It alerts that the password is wrong. The strange thing is that after any attempt for singing in I see via web browser into Yahoo mailbox that Yahoo sent me emails notifying me that a new device has sing in into my Yahoo mail.

Interesting. We just had a Bell sales guy going door to door the other day and while he was doing his song and dance to get me to switch, I mentioned the Yahoo and Mac Mail issue to him. He said that the issue wasn't happening with Bell, not that I believed him or expected him to know anything technical because he's in sales. I didn't know anything about the MacMail issue until it affected me, either. Anyway, while I'm sorry to hear that you're having the same issue, it proves that's it not only a Rogers issue so I can't hate on them too much. (at least not in this instance!) Its definitely a Yahoo issue and good luck with that getting fixed anytime soon. I upgraded from Catalina to Ventura as some posters suggested and it didn't make any difference. I've also tried to reset my account, not possible. Your email on your phone is still the same because the phone is not using the same interface as your MacBook. Anyway, frustrating for sure because I much prefer the MacMail, but I have no option other than to wait and get my weekly phone messages from Rogers until it gets fixed. Thanks for reaching out.

Thanks for all the help. I had to change my pacbell/yahoo password yesterday and suddenly I couldn't log into my mac mail on my 2014 iMac running Catalina 10.15.7. I was able to log in on my phone and newish MacBook pro no problem. I followed the instructions here and was able to log in with the one-time password. Mine was actually called something slightly different, but it was under the email section of my pacbell account. I have had this email forever (thus the pacbell.net designation!) but I may need to think about migrating. Also may be time for a new computer!

Hi Monica,

The same thing happened to me when I had to change my yahoo password back in early Sept. I now have a new MacBook running Ventura and am still not able to access MacMail. Don't run out and buy a new computer, its an issue with Yahoo and its been going on for months. I get weekly updates from my carrier that the issue is still being worked on, to no avail.

Thanks for letting me know! Very disconcerting. This is a long time email that will take a lot to change so the fact that it's not working with new products from apple is crazy. I hope your carrier gives you good news soon. My laptop is running Ventura 13.2 and worked without the workaround that I had to do with my older iMac.
