Hi lobster, No way! The phone does an update , not the car! Apple should apply not mercedes!!

The problem here can be in the infotainment system, or in the iPhone, or in iOS, or in the connection, among other possibilities.

If you have used a cable to connect to the infotainment system here and not Bluetooth, you will have already replaced that and ruled it out as an issue.

If not the cable, the next step is to check for infotainment system firmware updates, and for iOS updates. This usually resolves the known issues that can arise with the two immensely complicated computers operating on each end of the connection—the infotainment system, and your iPhone.

If the problems persist, contact the car manufacturer, as they are best positioned to troubleshoot this. If the problem is with iOS, the car manufacturer is best positioned to work directly with Apple to resolve this, or (potentially) to make changes to the infotainment system to work around the issues.

Even if this is an issue with the iPhone and iOS, it’s not an endemic issue with CarPlay. And if this is iOS at fault and not some oddity specific to the manufacturer’s infotainment system, it’s something that will necessarily involve both the infotainment system maintainers and Apple CarPlay maintainers to resolve, and possibly other parts of both organizations.

Could this issue be caused by the iOS update? Sure. But is the flaw in the Apple code, or in the infotainment firmware, or has (for instance) some Bluetooth giblet on either end of the connection that picked this moment to fail?

In short… Contact the infotainment system vendor. That’s usually here vehicle manufacturer. They’re best positioned to resolve this directly m or to work with Apple to resolve this. They’re also best positioned to know if and where there are issues with CarPlay; whether those are nascent, already acknowledged via TSB, or otherwise.

I have a Chrysler 300 with Apple CarPly. I upgraded my iPhone from 16.4.1 to 16.5 now my CarPlay don't work. after talking to Apple support and Chrysler customer care we came to the conclusion it's the 16.5 that's not compactable. I read Apple have 16.6 in Bata and offered is to whoever request to be a tester. that's why I asked will 16.6 fix the Apple Car play. Now I'm asking anyone from Apple.

Just an update on my recent post from yesterday. While I don't believe that the 16.5.1 upgrade fixed the issue with CarPlay not working as I did it a few days ago and for a few days it still did not work. What has happened this afternoon is out of the blue, while I was driving, CarPlay suddenly kicked in and was connecting to my entertainment system again. Admittedly it did have issue with the screen being locked, however, as soon as I unlocked it everything was fine again. Let's see if this sticks and lasts.

I have a 2021 Toyota Rav 4 Hybrid and the problems you described are happening on my car also.

This has only been happening since the update to 16.5.1 and is so upsetting.

At one point I used "Forget this device" for my Toyota and paired it again, still the same result.

The volume control randomly works or not and as you said steering wheel buttons don't respond.

This is a maybe it will work this time or maybe not scenario!

I thought I was losing my mind!

APPLE PLEASE GET THIS BUG FIXED ASAP!

Mine is Honda….. so again suggests IOS as multiple car manufacturers

Or the manufacturers are using some common third-party framework, or using some older Apple and deprecated framework, or using some common component vendor, and that somehow got it wrong.

Nobody here knows. This could well be Apple. This could be something else.

The folks that have access to the failing gear for troubleshooting are the vehicle manufacturers.

Or to rephrase this, and here assuming this is an Apple issue (which is unclear), who do you want complaining about this issue to Apple?

You and a few others of us here in a forum?

Or, well, Honda?

Same issue on 2017 Ford F150 Platinum with Sync 3. Everything worked until an update a few months back. I have even removed and replaced the USB port in the truck thinking it had something wrong with it and doubting it could be my new iPhone 14 that was the issue as it has worked a week before it stopped on a road trip and using the Apple Map as the Navigation. Currently have the 14 updated to iOS 16.6.1 and still not resolved in that version.
