Hi lobster, No way! The phone does an update , not the car! Apple should apply not mercedes!!

The problem here can be in the infotainment system, or in the iPhone, or in iOS, or in the connection, among other possibilities.

If you have used a cable to connect to the infotainment system here and not Bluetooth, you will have already replaced that and ruled it out as an issue.

If not the cable, the next step is to check for infotainment system firmware updates, and for iOS updates. This usually resolves the known issues that can arise with the two immensely complicated computers operating on each end of the connection—the infotainment system, and your iPhone.

If the problems persist, contact the car manufacturer, as they are best positioned to troubleshoot this. If the problem is with iOS, the car manufacturer is best positioned to work directly with Apple to resolve this, or (potentially) to make changes to the infotainment system to work around the issues.

Even if this is an issue with the iPhone and iOS, it’s not an endemic issue with CarPlay. And if this is iOS at fault and not some oddity specific to the manufacturer’s infotainment system, it’s something that will necessarily involve both the infotainment system maintainers and Apple CarPlay maintainers to resolve, and possibly other parts of both organizations.

Could this issue be caused by the iOS update? Sure. But is the flaw in the Apple code, or in the infotainment firmware, or has (for instance) some Bluetooth giblet on either end of the connection that picked this moment to fail?

In short… Contact the infotainment system vendor. That’s usually here vehicle manufacturer. They’re best positioned to resolve this directly m or to work with Apple to resolve this. They’re also best positioned to know if and where there are issues with CarPlay; whether those are nascent, already acknowledged via TSB, or otherwise.

Ik have this problem too! Iphone 8 in a Mercedes A160. carplay first worked after the update to 16.5.1 but suddenly asked for acceptance. This happenend 4 days or so and after that carplay won't start in the car. I did all that is said on the different fora but nothing works. I did "forget this car" and now it will not pair again. I also activated siri which i hate but hey, I need carplay. That also made no difference... Does apple know about this issue? How can we file a complaint?

My car does not do updates. It isnt a tesla you know

Most modern cars, even cars dating back a few years, have the ability to take software updates. CarPlay didn't become ubiquitous until around 2018 or so. By then, infotainment systems were designed with updatability built in. You may not be able to do the update yourself, but usually, the car dealership has the ability to update an infotainment system. Newer cars now have Over the Air update options. And this doesn't just apply to Tesla.

iPhone 6s

Then your iPhone should be updated to iOS 15.7.8, which is the highest iOS your iPhone can support. Since you've skipped a couple years worth of updates, you will likely need to update your iPhone using your computer and iTunes. This link explains how to do that --> Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iTunes - Apple Support (PH)
