Internet Not Working on My Mac?

Hi, I have two Macs, one in a home recording studio and one for other use. On one of the Mac’s, iMac from late 2022 (OS 10.9 Mavericks), my internet does not work since yesterday. Wifi connection is good. Both browsers, Safari and Firefox are not able to do anything. My other Mac the internet is fine. Does anybody have any idea what the problem could be?

iMac 24″, macOS 12.2

Ah yes... in the hub manager do you see a way to disable the 5GHz network?

Just checking, is where Internet comes into the house connected to the Red outlet at 5.?

Aha, I should've thought of that, good find, it won't hurt to try...

https://appletoolbox.com/flush-dns-cache-mac-os-x/

  1. Open the Terminal app on your Mac.
    • The easiest way is to press CMD+Space on your keyboard.

  1. Enter the following command:
    • sudo dscacheutil -flushcache; sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder

  1. Press Enter.
  2. If prompted, type your administrator password.
  3. Press Enter again to submit your password.

The DNS cache will automatically be flushed, but you won’t see any prompts with Terminal confirming that the process has been completed. Instead, after the DNS flush is finished, Terminal will move to a new line item, at which point the command will have been carried out. In the event that you type the password into Terminal but don’t see the cursor move, don’t be alarmed. This is just how Terminal operates, and as long as you enter the password correctly, the DNS cache will still be taken care of. If you enter a wrong password, Terminal will tell you as much, allowing you to re-enter the password or requiring you to enter the command again.

I think I did it OK. After I typed my password and pressed enter it moved to a new line. Then I quitted Terminal. Then I restarted my Mac and tried to use the Wi-fi. It hasn’t made any difference, on either location, Automatic or the new one I made. Maybe I should take the machine to the Apple Centre for investigation? Have you got any other ideas? Thanks again.

Well, I’m baffled! The Wifi worked perfectly in the Apple Centre so there is no fault with the Mac. The guy deleted the Wifi option I was using to connect through in the services list in Network Preferences (Automatic Location) and made new one called “WIFI Home” However, when I got home it was still exactly the same.

Wifi works perfectly on my Mac in the Apple Centre but NOT in my house! Has anybody get any suggestions? Thanks again.

Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...

System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.

System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.

The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.

Sys Prefs>Network>highlight the Interface you're using>Advanced>TCP/IP>Configure IPv4: Using DHCP.

If using Wifi, instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.

System Preferences>Network>choose interface>Advanced>Proxies Tab, make sure none are set, like for HTTP & HTTPS.

System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
