Backup No Longer Working Ove Xfinity Wi-Fi - Getting "Poor Network Conditions" Error Message

I can no longer backup over Xfinity Wi-Fi. I've reset the network settings, reset the modem, and even got a new Xfinity modem. I keep getting an error message saying "The last backup could not be completed because of poor network conditions". The network conditions are not poor.

This started with getting a new gateway from Xfinity and the upgrade is it now has IPV6 with IPV4. The issue is not all IOS processes are IPV6 compatible and there is no way to disable IPV6 on Xfinity. The only work around is to get your own router that has this function and disable it until IOS does the update. This sucks but there’s no other way. 😔

I am having the same issue with the same error message. May 30th was my last successful iCloud backup for my iPhone and two iPad Pros. Tried everything, and after resetting the network settings the iPhone and iPad 11 were able to be backed up. However, the iPad 12.9 will not back up. I tried erasing all content and started from scratch, and still no change.

Called Apple and told them that I have seen other users with the same error message, and as usual they said they're unaware of anything like that, and I should bring the iPad into a store, which I figure would be a waste of time, since all three devices + other users have dealt with the same problem.

I have not called Xfinity, as I figured that would be also be a waste of time.

Has anyone identified what's causing this backup malfunction?

I also am having the same problem and also the last IOS update. I called Xfinity support and had my 13 pro analyzed, no issue. Also called my Apple support, everything checked out. This all started when I got a new modem from Xfinity as they said my old one needed to be replaced. I should have declined. I now have to go to my AT&T store to do iCloud backups and IOS updates. Sooo frustrating!!

Has anyone else with this issue also noticed their phone switches from Wi-fi to cellular and back to Wi-fi whenever you open your phone from idle? That's actually the first symptom of this issue I noticed (it all started on June 13t, 2023, BTW).

Makes me wonder if the phone is even remaining on the Wi-fi network when not actively in use. We have a good cellular signal at our home so not sure I'd be able to tell if it wasn't connected or not. But I do feel like my battery isn't staying charged as long as usual when at home, which is also why I'm questioning.

Debbie -

One more time:

-My iPhone14 Pro is connecting fine. It took several tries to download iOS16.5.1 Security update, but eventually was not greyed out and downloaded. It has been fine since. It shows connection to 5G

-My iPad 9th Gen never had any problems and has updated. It shows connection to 5G

The problem was with iPad Mini5, which would not update since 6/27. Message was “poor network condition”. I updated using Ethernet from the router. On the app, it does not always show up as connected to wifi, even when it is. To show a connection, I can either turn wifi off/on or connect to several internet pages (FB, news, etc). Then it also shows connected to 5G

The Xfinity tech was not aware of the issue. Apple Support had this discussion open when we talked, but they were unable to get my iPad to connect. They just had me “forget network” and reassign. I thought the tech was not as good as others I’ve had.

Good luck with your visit. Lmk what you learn.

Thanks, Kevin. My brain is fried on this...so I just need one or the other, and not both? Is that correct? Lightning to Ethernet is the simplest? Plug ethernet cord into router. Plug other end of ethernet cord into adapter, plug adapter into phone.

By the way, I tried Apple tech support, and then a "senior advisor" at Apple to discuss this, and it was completely useless. I had to tell them that using ethernet on a mobile device was possible.

Joan, I admire your fortitude. Dealing with Comcast tech support over and over is far more than I could endure, and would cause me massive amounts of rage. I honestly think this is something that will need to be addressed on a firmware level. For now, don't split the router, use ethernet, until they figure it out. But maybe this next tech will have better luck.

I also think that the follow-up call that you describe is standard procedure. I've had that happen several times with tech visits. They agree a tech is needed. An hour later another person calls, says everything is ok on their end, and your should reboot. They are trying to avoid the cost of a tech visit. It's so transparent.

Hello, all. I just got a call from an Xfinity tech in Colorado, their senior team. He had my mod mail data from Reddit. The engineers pushed out a firmware update last night and he asked me to test it. Unfortunately, I still get the network issues error. He was going to check some other users, and report back to engineering. Did anyone else's problems resolve last night?

This is good news, they are working on this!

Hi there--received and sent over. The engineering teams have all the examples and account details they need to start work on a patch. I'll provide updates here as they become available: https://www.reddit.com/r/Comcast_Xfinity/comments/15kk9w4/issue_with_some_advanced_gateways_preventing/

Thank you again for your cooperation and assistance--it really helps a million to have live account examples.

So I’ve been messaging with them on Reddit today, and they told me they “pushed another signal on the back end for us to attempt to push it through” and asked me to try forgetting my network and reconnecting and try again. The app still is saying 6.2p21s2; however, sure enough, I was able to back up my iPad this evening. We’ll see if this sticks tomorrow… but first sign of hope.

I never checked this prior to Xfinity pushing the firmware update to me but given what I read above and seeing some struggles my iPhone 11 Pro Max seems to have on the 5G network when it connects to it, I went into my Xfinity app to see what bands my electronics at home are using. Every Apple product we own is using 5 GHz except a watch is using 2.4. My Ring doorbell is using 2.4. All other devices are using 5 GHz. Split bands is still deactivated on my wifi so as far as I can see 6 GHz would still be active for me but it really makes me wonder now if the firmware update has more to do with fixing or disabling the 6 GHz band on the XB8 router which would be really interesting given the only difference between XB6/7 and XB8 routers is the triband with 6 GHz.
