Backup No Longer Working Ove Xfinity Wi-Fi - Getting "Poor Network Conditions" Error Message

I can no longer backup over Xfinity Wi-Fi. I've reset the network settings, reset the modem, and even got a new Xfinity modem. I keep getting an error message saying "The last backup could not be completed because of poor network conditions". The network conditions are not poor.

This started with getting a new gateway from Xfinity and the upgrade is it now has IPV6 with IPV4. The issue is not all IOS processes are IPV6 compatible and there is no way to disable IPV6 on Xfinity. The only work around is to get your own router that has this function and disable it until IOS does the update. This sucks but there’s no other way. 😔

Taking all of this a step further, the difference between the XB8 and XB7 is that the XB8 supports Wifi 6e, while the XB7 supports Wifi 6. I don’t know what changed in June to account for recent reports of incompatibility; as I mentioned, I’m new to Xfinity.

Here’s an article from Apple about which devices support Wifi 6e - not many. (I’m still struggling to get my iPad Mini 5 to backup.)

I cannot believe I found this thread - for the past 2 weeks I thought it was my Apple devices and /or xfinity

I noticed on my ipad was not backed up since June 27 - I still had my old modem xb3 - July 7 got a new updated modem from xfinity -apple released IOS update - our devices said no network /and offline all greyed out - also unable to backup to icloud (but keep in mind icloud not backed up since June 27 and still had old modem-saying poor network conditions)- I spent endless hours on phone with Apple and Xfinity - reset network and operating system on ipad - NO LUCK - I went to my sisters and had no problem backing up- I had another technician come out replaced modem AGAIN July 15- it worked for a second then stopped again - I have lost sooo much time with hours on phone with Apple/ Xfinity/technicians coming out - I am TRULY so disgusted b/c I feel i am paying for service to XFINITY and not receiving what I am paying for - I would like to really know who is responsible for this APPLE or Xfinity - why can I Update in other locations with no problem- I should NOT have to go to other locations - I do have an IPV4 address where it states one IP address - then for IPV6 Address where it states my router and the 3 addresses for my IP address. XFINITY or APPLE cannot be blind to this - anyone have any insight if this problem is being addressed or just all of us sharing our frustrations. We need to all work together and escalate this problem. As I also read - situation started in June with all so we are all on same page. We should not have to waste our energy and precious time with all this technology - I am truly soo disgusted with Apple and Xfinity - appreciate feedback and or hopeful permanent resolution.

Well I decided which workaround made the most sense. I backed up my iPad Mini5 via Ethernet. Downgrading equipment didn’t sit well with me, especially as I expect that eventually this issue will be resolved. All my other Apple devices are backing up fine.

I have been in touch regularity with Xfinity technical support on the phone, and can call back for updates or any other issues.

So glad to have found this thread. I just saw an alert on my iPad 9 that it hadn't been backed up since 7/5/23, and when I tried to do a back up ran into the same "network conditions" as everyone else. I have had an XB8 modem for quite some time, so that is not the problem. However, Comcast has been doing network upgrades in my area, accompanied by outages, and that work coincides with the start of this problem: early July. So whatever they did, is not compatible with Apple backup. I have this problem with an IPad 8 as well, but I was just able to back up my iPhone 12, maybe because it somehow defaulted to cellular. I tried to back up the iPad using the phone hotspot, but that didn't work Sigh. Because I'd rather put sharp sticks in my eyes than call Xfinity technical support, I'll try the ethernet connection, when I'm not so annoyed. I hope that Xfinity and Apple can fix this. Apple, are you listening?

Just a reminder that you can back up a mobile device to your computer via the Music app on the computer. Not as good as backing to the cloud, which SHOULD work just fine, but it's something.

Here's what might be a related question. I have a security update, Rapid Security Response 16.5.1 (c) in my automatic updates on all my devices, 2 iPads and an Iphone, waiting for download and Install. But "Download and Install" is grayed out, so not clickable, with a note that says "This update requires a wi-fi network connection to download." My wifi is working fine for everything else, except backups, and maybe this? Anyone else have this issue?

Well I did… recommend from senior technician- I do have many smart devices- as I was told yes all work on both but some work better ( I believe iPhone 11 Pro Max ) and older ones work better on 2.4 - he also said now there is a 6 on newer devices- he updated all in my Xfinity app for me

I am by far not a technical person at all and don’t pretend to be- I just want what works for everything I am paying for correctly

I do agree - this problem needs to be fixed and quickly

Yes - spent 45 minutes with Apple tech support today (July 22) and 2 hours with xfinity. Endless dropped calls and blame shifting. Apple told me to go the King of Prussia, PA store - an appointment must be made! - in order to back up to iCloud and get to iOS 16.5.1(c) on my iPhone 12.

Two corporate behemoths sticking it to their customers. Sickening.

It seems as if this problem is happening with both the XB7 and XB8 devices. And some are having problems with iPhone, some with iPad, some both. My issue began o/a the third week of June, and I seem to recall Xfinity announcing that they would be in the neighborhood making "upgrades" to a 10 G system, a misnomer. I wonder if anyone else had a similar experience.

Not exactly, but I did do a post on the official Xfinity subreddit, which is supposedly monitored by higher level techs.

As you can see, I got a polite response from a tech, and zero posts from anyone else having this issue. So either it is not widespread or people just haven't noticed it yet.

I used the ethernet connections to download 16.6 for my iPhone 12, iPad9 and iPad10 and it worked very well. It's not a long term solution, but it's something. I was worried about my Apple Watch, but an update downloaded on its own last night.
