Change Apple ID on MacBook Air

I recently purchased a MacBook Air. I wanted to use it mainly for school, so I made a new Apple ID. However, in retrospect I wish I had used my original Apple ID. I would like to purchase Apple Care and I keep getting an error message regarding the Apple ID.

Is there a way to change the Apple ID to my original one without losing data on computer? Also, I do not want all of my pics to transfer over as I would like to use mainly for work purposes.

Thank you,

Michele

Hello judithmichele,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities. We're happy to look into this with you.

One thing you could do that might be easy, is to create a second user account on your Mac and from there, just share whatever data you need to through Family Sharing. You can read more about this here: Family Sharing - Apple.

If you decide to change your Apple ID instead, you will want to follow: Change your Apple ID - Apple Support

Let us know if you have any questions.

Best regards.
