Wireless Print Issue: "Stopped on server - Sending data to printer"

Hi,

My Macbook Pro stopped (wirelessly) printing recently after several years of no problems. I successfully deleted the PIXMA MX922 entry (System Preferences > Printers & Scanners) and then re-added my PIXMA MX922 to my Macbook Pro. I then successfully did a wireless Test Print from my Macbook Pro. Also, I have no problem using my home Wi-Fi network on my Macbook Pro.

However, when I try to wirelessly print a text document I get several usual print dialog messages such as "Ready to Print Page 1" before this final dialog message appears: "Stopped on server - Sending data to printer". I click on Pause and then Resume, but this does not help.

I tried restarting my Macbook Pro, but that didn't help. I also connected my Macbook Pro directly to my PIXMA MX922, but was still not able to print any text documents.

By the way, I can successfully print documents from my iMac to my PIXMA MX922 via a hard wire connection.

I have been successfully running macOS Mojave (10.14.6) for several years on my Macbook Pro. For the Canon MX920 series, selecting About shows that I am using PrinterProxy Version 14.4 (555.6).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

Are you using drivers from the printer manufacturer? An option would be to print via AirPrint. The Canon MX922 is not mentioned in the May 08, 2023 en-us About AirPrint - Apple Support. However, in the July 01, 2022 edition of that article, the printer was listed as a model supporting Apple's AirPrint technology. This means that the MX922 should work without having to install drivers, provided that the printer and the Mac are connected to the same network (Wi-Fi router). An AirPrint printer is compatible with macOS. AirPrint works with wireless (Wi-Fi) or wired (Ethernet) network connections, so you could connect the printer wirelessly or use an Ethernet cable to one of the LAN ports of the router. Ethernet (available on the MX922) may be more stable.

In case of difficulties recognising devices/computers when using AirPrint, try a power cycle sequence (do not forget the router):

Power off the Wi-Fi router, the printer, the Mac(s), and all iPhones/iPads/other computers or devices. Wait two to three minutes. Power on the router. Wait two to three minutes. Power on the printer. Wait a minute or two. Power on the Mac(s). Finally, power on the iPhones/iPads/other computers or devices.

For a USB connection, drivers are needed.
