Solved: JBL Flip 4 and M1 Mac

M1 Mac connects bluetooth to the Flip 4 speaker, but it doesn't show up in the list of sound devices you could choose (airplay).

Solution for me was to use the JBL Portable App and turn on "speakerphone" mode. Then you have two devices in the bluetooth list, one identified as speaker and one not identified. But it then appears in the sound listings. Apparently if you don't do this, it doesn't register as a speaker.

BTW, don't download the JBL Headphone and Speaker app. It's a scam. They got my credit card. 😡

Don't think this is a Mac issue but JBL. FLIP 4 seems unable top pair to both a phone & pc at same time. Was true with my old DELL, true now with new MacBook M1. I usually use FLIP to play music streamed from Android phone. To connect to another device (e.g. laptop), I need to turn off phone then reboot laptop. JBL pairs fine with phone on or off, but FLIP will not appear in MacOS Sound device list if also paired to phone. Turn off phone, reboot, and FLIP shows up in device list and plays fine. Again, similar problem with old Windows system, so I think it's a FLIP issue - not good at multitasking.
