Having the same issue. Somewhere (that I cannot find again) macOS/Mail pushed me to a browser to change my password. Ended up changing the wrong wrong. An hour later I finally got that one fixed. However the original problem has not...I have a gmail account for which I change the password via google, figuring I could update the Mac afterwards..but no, no way to do that.


Help!

Mac mail itself doesn't have a password other than the local PW you use to login to your Mac.


Each mail account (Yahoo, gmail, proton mail, Comcast and etc) each have their own password. What I do ... change it on the website and then make the commensurate change in Mac mail when told my current password is invalid.


I do that because I prefer to go directly to the source where the password is required and it precludes all the hunting and pecking for the password change facility locally..
