iCloud encountered an error while trying to connect to the server

Two days ago I started having issues with iCloud sync on two different computers. One is running Windows 11 and the other Windows 10. I don't think this is just a Win 11 issue.

Futurist2022 above said Firefox is working. I also installed it on a Win 10 machine and got it working.

I have also followed all steps and everything looks good on my end. During authentication while installing the iCloud app on my PC, I get an additional error: An error occurred during authentication. Please try again.

Logging in on my iPad is fine, but I am not able to log in on my PC.

This started for me as well a few days ago! I use iCloud on the web from my win 11 laptop almost daily. Reinstalled win11 a fresh install and worked until it was fully updated again!! Very disappointing. I’m done trying to fix something that Microsoft or Apple broke!!

Same bucket, iCloud.com and the iCloud app are not syncing or working with Windows 10. Have signed out and the authentication window comes up, but the error "iCloud encountered an error while trying to connect to the server." keeps popping up. This is my case at least. Changed the password but no such luck to fix. iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch all "seem" to be working fine...

Could not agree more and thank you for the breakdown. I am having the exact same issue, with no changes to the infastructure, internet or computers. This would appear to be a iCloud/Apple issue at this point.

I will say, that oddly, it started working again on my Windows 10/Chrome browser laptop, which was odd. It will not work on my Windows 10/Chrome browser tower.

Unbelievable! I have changed absolutely nothing / did not even restart computer, and now 24 hours later I am successfully logging in on Windows 11 / Chrome and have loaded my Calendar.

I will enjoy for now as I am not confident how long this will last.

Thank you, this is the most helpful post yet. The work arounds offered (the IPV6 chiefly) seems to help with the browser issue of iCloud, not the app, which is what this thread is for.

Thanks again, hopefully Apple/MS fix this very soon as it has crippled many.

Can you tell what problems may occur elsewhere as a result of making this change? I worry that if I go changing settings in my computer to accommodate this issue, I will cause problems with something else. I.e. why wouldn't I want to leave it unchecked indefinitely?

Is there any indication from Apple that they acknowledge that this problem exists and that they are working to remedy this problem? I, as is the case with many others, cannot log into icloud from windows 10, using Firefox or Edge. I get the same messages that others are getting, cannot connect to server, authentication failed.

Thanks for the reply. I unchecked the IP6 option. Is unchecking that option all that is involved? There is also an install/uninstall option, which I did not use. Unchecking the IP6 option did not change the problem. Still unable to "connect to server".

This the same Apple policy I have grown to loathe. Never acknowledge issues, just leave the product users in the dark, what can they or will they do about do about it? Well some folks drop Apple, there are plenty of Apple haters around. But this corporate attitude exists elsewhere. Maybe we should form a Union of users to sharpen the tip of bad press spear .....

I've been trying to get the iCloud service (on Windows 11 Pro) to sign in. After several attempts, I somehow got it to authenticate. Calendars and contacts are not showing in Outlook however. Tricky to know where to report this.

No idea, but a Google search said okay to delete.

I tried disabling first, but it came back on with restart.

For me, it was impacting both signing into icloud via my browser (Chrome) and via the icloud for Windows app.

Both are working fine now!
