MacBook Air M1 trackpad click not working

This is also happening with my MacBook Pro M1, 2020 that's updated to Sonoma 14.5. When opening up after being on sleep mode the touchpad flashes, more frequently now - then it either comes on or doesn't, which forces me to reboot. Prior to me searching up this thread, my screen just froze, the screen was in semi-darkness and no click worked at all. I plugged into a power source & rebooted which worked thankfully even as it's a temporary fix. Please HELP!

The shutdown may or may not work for me, after a few trials.

We should hear from Apple Support, here: Are we dealing with hardware/software/driver problems? It's not making sense to me.

In fact, it is randomly the case that one app would exhibit this problem (Pages, for ex) while another app might not exhibit this problem, all within the same run.

my issue is with just different webpages- and not the same ones. right now - the YouTube video I selected won't let me click on stop/start video but the webpage for this and my banking site is just fine. just started in since the latest release MacBook Air / 14.4 / M1

Developed over the last few days and is now full-blown problem. Neither trackpad nor mouse (Bluetooth or USE) working. I have to do a hard shutdown, reboot and things work for a moment and then...nothing. Can't access anything on my MB Pro.

Help!

I went through apple support. Did a diagnostics test, nothing. But when it reloaded, it worked— long enough for me to get an update STARTED. However now I can’t click to complete the update. I bought a wireless mouse, but return to click isn’t working to turn it on. I tried to go through the same process several times as I did with apple help, but it won’t work.

this is ridiculous.

Same for me on both my M1 and M2 MacBook Airs. The force shut down only works for a few minutes then it’s back at it. I have seen that if I hover the curser over what I want to click on for 20-30 seconds then it will click. It seems random as to what it will click on and what it won’t. It’s a big pain in the rear.

Three questions (after my wife experiencing it this morning):

• Are external USB drive in the picture for all of you?
• Does it work with USB mouse for you?
• Is the only permanent fix to replace hardware?

I have the same issue. The trackpad feedback click stopped working about an hour ago. I've checked the system prefs and it's turned on but still not working. I powered down as suggested here but that changed nothing. How can I get the click working again?

Same issue happened with me. M1 MacBook air was working fine until suddenly it just stops working. I’ve restarted it twice and it’s not been fixed yet.

Has anyone heard from Apple regarding this?

i was legit just working on mine and it was fine. Video ended and I can’t click. I can move the mouse around, but no tap click or push click. Restart didn’t work

This started happening to me 2-3 days ago, must've happened with a new firmware / update. Needs to be fixed ASAP. Fix does not work, tried twice, don't work.
