WALLPAPER GONE. I'm on 12.5.2, and I no longer have the option to change my Wallpaper. iMac M1

The option to add or subtract from "Wallpaper" images is gone, because all images and controls are gone as well, and this has been the case since the previous update. Before you tell me to add a folder with the + button let me reiterate- when "Wallpaper" is opened the window opens Blank White, nothing there, nada, empty, no options (see image).

One day I went into Wallpaper, to change the current image and the moment I clicked on On it (the word Wallpaper) my screen reverted to this orange horror, and the folder went empty.

Conditions: iMac M1 (see Image) I have used Finder/ go, I find the Desktop image folder, but it is no longer connected to anything, and a folder of some of my images is gone also. So please look at the image below and help me figure out what has happened.

Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.

Also have you installed and run any "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up", anti-virus or VPN apps on your Mac?

Yea sorry about the "12". Look at the bottom of the screen at the big white blank area, that is my wallpaper folder in 13.5.2 it was like this after multiple restarts both hard and soft. I have not booted in Safe Mode, because I have long been a user but not the kind of user comfortable with playing around in "Console" and the like. I know that safe mode is named that for a reason, but I will have to exhaust other avenues before I go down that broken dream.

When System Settings> Wallpaper is opened i get> <. Not looking too good I have an OWC RAID 7Tb RAID5, and a 6Tb G-Drive Pro as externals. disconnecting them and restarting does nothing. So that is how it stands.
