What is needed to use my iPhone 13 in France for voice, texts, and data?

Does the iPhone 13 work as is in France with nothing additional, or do I need SIM cards?

I currently have Verizon as my carrier. They offer what they call an "unlimited" plan for a month of use for about $100 US. Is that better? If not, I will need to find SIM cards in France since they are not available for advance purchase in the US from what I have been told.

What is the best option for a month?

Thank you!

Hello TravelEurope,

Thank you for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. An iPhone 13 supports Dual SIM (nano‑SIM and eSIM) and dual eSIM. That information is outlined in the technical specifications for the iPhone 13 in this link here: iPhone 13 - Technical Specifications - Apple

Therefore; you can use the iPhone 13 with a supported carrier in France by using an eSIM. Here's a list of carriers that support eSIM in France:

France
Bouygues Telecom
Free
Orange
SFR
Truphone
Ubigi

That information is outlined here: Find wireless carriers and worldwide service providers that offer eSIM service - Apple Support

You'll want to make sure that your iPhone is unlocked and can be used with another carrier and to follow these steps to use an eSIM: About eSIM on iPhone - Apple Support

In reference to finding a good deal, you can weigh your options with the carriers in France and compare it to the service plan from that of Verizon Wireless.

Best regards.

Thank you for the detailed response. I still have Verizon, but ended up trading my current iPhone for a new iPhone 14. I know it has an eSIM, something I had not heard of prior to purchase. The plan Verizon offers for about $100 is for a month of coverage. I have not been able to determine yet if that is unlimited, or not. Also, someone I will be traveling with uses T-Mobile and when I check there, it appears they have unlimited plans for $15 a month. That is a lot less than $100 a month from Verizon. I am surprised there seems to be such a wide spread. Can you comment on that?

From what other Apple Support Community members have shared, it may be easier to stay with Verizon than switching to a different wireless carrier, but the cost difference seems significant. What you suggested about comparing costs will be a factor, but ease of doing this is also a consideration. Can you share further thoughts?

Thank you.
